Yeah you have got a point Tim.. it must be an ancient engine now.. 4.2 6 cylinder diesel pumping out 201 Bhp.. hmm.. not exactly a hot rod is it..

I am even up for suggesting, buy a super exec barge with the money and buy a damn second hand chysler voyager with the spare change would mean another 2 cars then though..

my cousin recently picked up a vauxhall zafira for about £3k on a 51 plate and thats very spacious.. proper 7 seater, i was quite amazed to be honest..

One of the lads I work with got a hire car waiting for his opt out car to be delivered (He went for a Ford Focus TDCi 'Edge' Rolling with laughter , does the same job as me!)

It was a Zafira and I won't repeat what he eloquently described it as! Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Kam, sorry mate - I meant the mechanicals............. anybody can bolt on all the other stuff to make the wagon appear more modern. I would say the only things going for the Land Cruiser are it's bullet-proof build and Toyotas warranty. Friend of mind was up here offroading recently and was abit too ambitious with the revs on a rock climb. Front wheels came off the ground and fell back again while doing about 6000 rpm! Something had to give and it was the rear diff which disintegrated.................... car was trailered back to the road to await AA home recovery back to NE England. Got an email the other day to say Toyota had footed the bill for everything even though the car will be 3 years old on 1st June. That Amazon drove across the Sahara from Egypt to Morocco last year with out missing a beat. I cannot see LR doing that, they would fight you the whole way!

The LandCruiser's always had that "ship of the desert" thing about it. When I visited Ayers Rock (or Uluru as I believe you're meant to call it these days) all the search and rescue vehicles there were LandCruisers. Eats the outback for breakfast, lunch and dinner by all accounts. I've always thought they were an expensive option, given they still have a Toyota badge on the back... no question over solidity though.

We test drove a Landcruiser LC5 (Not Amazon) and it was a good piece of kit. 3.0d engine was really quite refined for a 4cyl. Nice smooth auto and fairly decent ride quality. Was loaded to the gunwhales with kit (DVD touch screen nav, full leather, all the electric gizmos, air suspension and some pretty serious off roading kit)

Problems?
Toyota badge for £38k
Handled like a 4x4 from yesteryear - even with air suspension
Interior was like a giant corolla

LC5 was huge.. am thinking the Amzon will be like trying to steer Tims ship into port then!! oh well.. they do have a Golf 1.6 which they take shopping, so guess the landcruiser would live on the drive a lot.. as does the X5 right now..
I hate looking for new cars for other people... does my nut in.. after all this.. bet he will turn round and say.. nah we reconsidered R class it is..

They could stick the Golf in the back of the Amazon when they go on holiday and bit like those motorhomes you see with a little car tagged on the back for local journeys once they get where they're going... Wink

nah .. i wouldn't reccomend driving to cyprus without a spare mate..

talking of RS4.. anyone see 5th gear last night..
foregone conclusion really.. if the new RS4 couldn't fend off an M3 (which is 2000-2001 design and build) then audi would have got very embarrassed.. not the most outstanding test i've ever seen but will have its desired effect on order books and residuals i bet!! Laughing Laughing
