Hi, I am about to fit roof rails onto my MY10, has anyone done this? I have done a search and it seems like quite a tricky job, understanding the LR instructions is tricky enough in itself! I have read that fitting them on a MY10 is slightly easier, but is there still need for drilling?

Any pointers welcome, thanks in advance.

Easy no drilling but the 6 plugs are hard to remove. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

The plugs are hard to remove. I used a furniture tack remover which is like a very small claw hammer. You need to get right under the plastic flange befrore attempting to lever out the plug.

AND there is some drilling to do, but not on the body. You have to overdrill the existing holes, in the existing trim, where you remove the plastic plugs from. This is to allow the spacers to sit onto the body fixing points and under the new rails, with the removed trim back in place.

The existing trim is stainless steel and is therefore quite hard to drill. I used a holesaw as shown in the instructions but the trick was to clamp the trim to a block of wood with the pilot drill going into the block of wood. It ended up a bit messy but was covered with the new rail.

The whole job of removing the existing trim, overdrilling the holes in the existing trim and fitting the rails took about an hour. Now :3.0 TDV6, Stornoway grey, Premium Almond leather,Dynamic Pack , Paddle shifters, Rear Electronic Diff, Surround Camera System, Park Distance Control - Front, Tow Pack, 19 x 9" 5 V-Spoke wheels, Memory Pack, Cold Climate Pack, Carpet Mat Set, Roof rails, general Grabber ATs,

Ordered, due May 17 SDV6 Dynamic Loire Blue, Ivory, Drive Pro pack, Sliding roof, Heated seats and steering wheel, Surround cameras, Tow pack with Advanced Tow Assist, Meridian 825w sound,

Thanks for your advice on this, I'll have a go at fitting them in a couple of weeks when some time frees up.

+1 on those bloody plastic fir trees. What a PITA they were to get out. I wrecked most of them.

IIRC you need a 19mm hole saw.

Its crazy you have to drill that trim to fit the equipment because if you then want to take the bars/rails off (because you want to get your 34mpg on the motorway not 31mpg) you have to buy another set of the trim fittings that you've just drilled (unless of course you don't mind rocking around with some nasty big holes in your trim).

Thats a big fail in my book Land Rover.

I've kept my old set of trims so that when I want to refit the bars/rails, I don't have to redrill the new trims.

That said, to whoever buys my set of bars/rails, I'll give them the old drilled trims as well.
