I was reading this some where in the net any idea if still this issue is there in coming RRS production

Land Rover in US recall

8th November 2005

The US National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that Land Rover is recalling about 2,000 SUVs because of a possible defect in the automatic transmission parking guide plate.

The potential problem is that ‘park’ may not engage when the driver moves the vehicle’s lever into park, even though all indicators show that the vehicle is in park. As a result, if the vehicle were parked on sloping ground without the parking brake engaged, it could roll away.

The recall affects 2006 Land Rover LR3, the Land Rover/Range Rover, and the Land Rover/ Range Rover Sport and is expected to begin on November 30, 2005.

– The NHTSA has opened an investigation into another product of Ford’s PAG brand group, the Volvo XC90 SUV, after receiving complaints about battery cables. Volvo North American said a nut that secures the main cable that connects the battery to the The preliminary NHTSA investigation will involve 39,500 vehicles. There have been no crashes, fires or injuries linked to the potential fault.

I know a few cars have been recalled under that notice... I don't know how quickly recall notices get merged into the build process. One for TB, that.

All vehicles that were impacted should have already been fixed by now. For unsold vehicles, they were not allowed to be sold before replacing the parking pawl guide plate.

The transmission's manufacturer (ZF) shipped transmissions with defective pawl plates to numerous brands... not just Land Rover. Once discovered, they were immediately replaced.

How many people would leave a £40k+ car without applying the handbrake anyway! I'd never trust just P postion.

If your car rolls away you don't deserve a car of this value!

Oddly, the instructor who did my LRE advised against ever using the EPB (in day-to-day driving, not offroad). I must admit I always pop it on when getting out of the car...

You cannot leave an automatic RRS or D3 parked without the EPB engaging by itself after a while, or so the local dealer tells me! I usually leave it on and I also engage it at traffic lights, it really p*sses me off to be stuck behind somebody at the lights who stands on the footbrake and dazzles me with their high level brake light. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Did he say why not? I use it religiously.

I think his logic was just "P is good enough and the car's not going anywhere like that"... all well and good, but personally I think it's just good practice to engage the handbrake in any car when necessary - electric or not. In fact, it learns you bad habits... on the few occasions I drive the wife's FL, I always end up forgetting to release the handbrake.

Also officially you are not stopped/parked without engaging the parking brake, according the the Highway Code! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

our 7 series has an electric parking brake which engages when you stop.. it then turns off when u press the gas again same as the RRS.. think this should have been put in the RRS too..
