My TDV8 (MY10) has done 10,900 miles. Yesterday morning, the display said 1,600 miles to service. I've driven 130 miles since then and now it's saying service required. I phoned my dealer who basically told me to ignore the service indicator on the display - he says it needs a service at 15,000 miles and the service indicator only applies to the FF, not the RRS. I explained the handbook says to go by the service indicator for the RRS, for which he hadn't really got an answer. I assume the book is correct, but I still don't understand why it went from 1,600 miles to "service required" in just 130 miles!

Any ideas?

I'm afraid I can't answer your question Old Stager...I'm going to just wait until the car tells me "service required"

Thanks for the feedback. Basically I need to decide whether to follow the advice of the dealer which would mean ignoring the "service required" display for anothe 4000+ miles or book it in for a service next week. I wonder where I'd stand with the warranty if I followed the dealer's advice. Arn't the service intervals 15000 miles or 12 months whichever comes 1st? Is your vehicle near 12 months old by anychance?

Ady, it's only 7 months/10,900 miles old. According to the manual, the service intervals are dictated by the service indicator on the display, not a set mileage.
