There has always been some conflicts between the Federal ADRs and the State regulations. The registration requirement in NSW to actually sight the engine number stamped on a Land Rover TDV6 block is a classic case. This was overridden by the Federal rules !
I'm not setting myself up as an expert on tinting and the laws. I'm simply stating that the NSW rules are clear.
Common sense would indicate that anything behind the driver could be unlimited and that other than the windscreen, everywhere else could be 35% (as for buses and commercial vehicles )
At the end of the day the issue is the strength of your argument when plod tries to ping you or your insurance claim is denied
