The Evoque is a marketing thing - for wannabe footballers' wives who want the cache of the RR brand without the size of the FFRR or Sport

Hence the reason Victoria Beckham was paid (probably vast quantities) to devise a bespoke interior.

So, the question is, do you want to be associated with footballers' wives?

If yes, it'll be the perfect car for you. If no, you'll feel a bit of a chump when you're driving it.

If you're not worried about image, just get a Disco 4 and have done with it - or better still, a Defender!

I made the choice to go with the Evoque. I do 25-30,000Kms a year and therefore could not justify the extra 40K of a RRS as I would need to change it after 3-4 years as the deprecation once it hit 120,000 is huge. I live in Melbourne so driving a huge car around the city is a pain. I currently drive a Navara and have to choose the car parks I go in to very carefully.

I know that this is a brand new model and are expecting that there will be teething problems but at least the running gear is proven.

I have to say that I love the way in looks, much sportier than the RRS or RR.

I also have to admit that if I was going to spend the cash to go RRS then I would spend the extra 10K for the Cayenne, why because it has all the latest stuff like 8 speed auto, start stop etc. The LR dealer was amazed that they already have start stop on the diesel. Somewhere else in the forum someone mentioned that they were not good in snow, and that he had to tow his next door neighbor out twice in a week. Well I am also on the Cayenne forum and the pictures that US guys send through of 2011 Cayenne up to hood driving in snow means that his next door neighbor can't have it set up right.

Size wise the Cayenne is wider but not as high. Inside space is about the same.

I am not insulting his intelligence, I was just saying that there are hundreds of Cayennes in the USA driven in really bad snow, so why do they not get stuck.

Why did it not get stuck. it was buried up to its bumpers in snow.

BTW, one of my friends owns a 2009 cayenne, he has it set up for off road. His mate has a full blown off road Landcruiser, Cayenne will go anywhere the crusier can go but as soon at it gets back on road all the cruisers see's it the tail light disappearoing in the distance.

Any 4 x 4 that can scale the Cascades when wet has to be good offroad, BTW we are yet to see an RRS succeed. Andrews Cayenne has done it in the wet and in the dry.

Firebird - you will love the Evoque, it looks beautiful but if you admire the Cayenne so much then go buy one. I don't know whether you run a RRS or not currently (can't see from your profile). I just talk from personal experience in normal everyday use and compare my humble RRS to the neighbours cayenne turbo. His is stupid fast ( he is 1 speeding ticket away from losing his license) but it does not perform anywhere near like my RRS off road and in snow - trust me we have compared. His lease is up next month and guess what ? After 2 Cayennes he's just ordered the SC RRS - he's finally joined the club ! I am glad cos I can eBay my tow rope and don't have to turn my head every time I walk out my front door as the ugly one will no longer be staring at me ! I agree, I do not like the old shape, new one looks better. Turbo ah, passes everything on the road except gas stations. Andrew had a turbo before he bought the one he has now. It was useless even in the wet. Toooo much power and on one trip we decided to really push it and averaged 67L Per 100 Kms. He upgraded to a normal V8 as that way he could fit 18" rims with real off-road tyres. Chances are you're next door neighbor has 21" with rubber bands for tyres. All the US guys fit 18" during winter so that they can run snow tyres.

Was looking at the Cayenne as would have bought one, but as I have said you cannot have one of them or an RRS or a X5 in when you do 140-160,000Kms in 5 years. Once they get above 120,000kms they are worth nothing. By spending 70-80K instead of 130-140K means that I will own the car after 3 years and therefore can swap if before it reaches 120000.
