Very high percentage value trade in?

What happens who you have a trade in which will be a high percentage value of trade in.

For example, if you have a RRS that you decide to downsize to a new Freelander and the trade in is only valued at a couple of grand below the price of the new car?

Do dealers do that? I've been mad for flipping years, absolutely years, over the edge for yonks.

Unless they have a buyer for yours then you'll never get as good a deal as maybe private (or buying a more expensive motor) RRS gone

This is a tricky one. When your PX is less than your newer car, they suck up the fact they have to buy your old car. They pay what they think it's worth, irrespective of if they want it, and consider the margin they have in the more expensive car in determining the price to change.

When you have a car to PX that is more expensive than what you are buying what you are really asking them to do is to cut you a cheque. I feel they treat the deal differently. You are creating a problem for them. You should look to sell the car privately - or otherwise, look to seel it in the trade (drive round and get quotes). And then negotiate a good cash deal discount or a decent PX price (because you would have already had a trade value on your swapper so you can compare; and you just worry about buying the new one at a fair price). If you have a desirable/market friendly car this will be reflected in the trade price (albeit lower than private, it would be a quicker / less hassle sale methinks). L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... ilard is 100% correct.

I would sell the RRS and walk into a dealership with cash and you will be able to drive a much better deal on the Freelander.

If this isn't hypothetical and you do want to sell you RRS PM me the spec and I'll tell you what it's CAP's Clean is.

Back in the 90's I looked at doing this, and the salesman said they do it, and he said they called it an "upside down deal"..

I think it will depend on if you are doing this with a LR dealer or not. If not they are likely just to call a LR dealer to get the trade in underwritten.

Where's James?

agree with above posts, if you are going for another landrover product than it may be simpler. in my experiance though, cash doesnt get you as good a deal - best temping them with some finance as they get a bung. when i bought mine i wanted to pay cash, but the deal was the same as the 2 year 0% i eventually went for!

i did once take my 6 month old merc ml to a mitsibishi dealer to test drive a new evo 7, the dealer said he would have to get it underwriten by a merc dealer - needless to say i never heard back from them! MY10 TDV6 SE (debadged Wink ), Santorini Black, Flappy paddles, Privacy Glass, 20" Stormers, Mudflaps!

Gone: a comprehensive list of imprezas and a Merc ML AMG

Sorry guys but disagree.....

This happens on a weekly basis at LPR and is no different to a normal transaction. PX values are viewed no differently nor is the deal itself. We would still take a deposit from the customer to order or hold a car, however this would be returned on the day of handover, along with the difference owed (usually by CHAPS).

It honestly doesn't change the dynamics of the deal.

James Thumbs Up

Hi All
I agree with what james has to say...
I have done this before before px-ing a new 350 slk after 6 week because the wife could not get on with it..She went back to a TT ...
The dealer is always going to offer you less than a private buyer 9 times out of ten but they have overheads etc.
Cheers V8 - HST Supercharger ..... The only way forward ! Wink
