Merc S Class..

Went galavanting around looking at cars... managed to get a good look around a Porsche 911 997 C2S, a Cayman S and also a Boxster S, helping a friend decide which car to buy..

Then went off to mercedes to see the new s class.. dissapointed to note that they didn't have a demo available to view or sit in.. great.. then on exit.. look what pulls up and reverses in to a spot right in front of us:

So we go on back in, ask for its keys, and have a good dig around..
Black with all the toys, long wheel base, cost close to £80k because of all the toys on board, and on enquiring who's it was and whether it was available for test drive, the salesman (well if u could call him that rather then a sitting representative) offers us the keys and says off we go.. despite having the car specially on loan for another customer and had a time set with him..

Off we went.. wow.. air suspension (missing it from the RRS).. alll the toys, including reversing cameras, distronic, night vision, HK sound system, rear blind kit, 19" AMG alloys, Comfort seats, which oddly inflate the opposite bolster to the direction you are steering into with the amount of intensity relative to the amount of throttle being given at the time.. all very clever stuff! took it home to show my dad, and u should have seen the salesmans face when i said, do u like my current MB, which currently is the pimp mobile and has the exhaust hanging off the rear, no plates and visually looks like it should be at the top of a scrap heap! he just kept on looking at it..

Anyway. very impressive car.. all the 7 series toys copied but made better, build quality and finish seem to be back up to bullet proof standards, and it is a very nice car, but overall conclusion, it doesn't stack up in the finance department.. this was the diesel and they are only willing to back it up with 30% residual value after 4 years on an £80k car!

Maybe a poverty spec one (i say poverty spec, but still quite nice spec) at £60k would be more worthwhile.. i.e 33% after 4 years, but still not good enough to persuade an order.. and XENONS aren't even standard!! at least Command nav is, but the phone is extra as well.. maybe a Full fat vogue isn't so expensive afterall!?

Oh and on our return from the test drive, the other salesman was standing there with a very annoyed looking customer.. as us two relatively young lads jump out and give them a smile.. (tank was nearly empty too after out little jaunt in it..!) he actually had a time booked.. not our fault MB don't care and would rather bag another possible sale rather then stick to times!

Oh well.. sorry mate..

Oh and the R Class.. what a con.. £30-50k for that odd looking crap.. no wonder its been a relative sales flop in the US.. stick to what ur good at MB, just build limos.. don't u learn after the smart era, not to launch stupid looking pretend cars..

Oh and.. thanks MB on solihull.. nice car, and good drive.. shame you don't deploy product awareness sessions to you're staff and model familiarisation sessions.. our order will be going to another more clued up broker if we decide to proceed!

Have you noticed how many CLS 500 and 600's there are around...... soon be as common as Focus's, or there is a lot of re-badging going on among MB owners, reminds me of all those FFRR/RRS owners making their TDv6's look like S/C's! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

I haven't seen hardly any CLS' mercs.. the ones i've seen have been 320 CDI's as they seem to be the most common, similar to the TDV6's on here.

These S class's are put together rather well.. but even this magazine review comparing it to all the other flag ship models, say its too pricey compared to expected future residuals.. They are trying to raise their game against Bmw by raising their prices.. but its just further way to drop.. Nice drive though!

Nah jay, they didn't have any S class on display.. its a Censored dealer to be honest.. that was prob a customer order car or someone else's. They hardly have anything interesting in there, or on display, its too small for the custom they get through the door. Most people i know go to the Birmingham dealer instead as its larger and can accomodate more models etc.

well its the dealership on the warwick road, A41.. you have to drive through solihull off the motorway towards birmingham city centre, then you come to this one on the right, and yes there are houses all around it, its quite a poxy little dealership compared to others close by.

Lovely looking car Kam with fairytale spec (Nice AMG alloys) but those residuals Shocked !

Our Group Vice Chairman at work has a black CLS 55 AMG on a 55 plate. Nice motor!

On a funny note, our directors at work are all defecting from E270CDi's into XC90's.

There face was an absolute picture when I rooled up at work with the RRS and managed to bag a spot in the Directors car park just as 3 (Including my Sales Director) arrived for work! Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

My boss's bro (Good guy) is a Sales Director for our soft drinks division and he's now decided to opt out and trade up to a RRS SE in Buck Blue Laughing Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad
