This caught my eye, is it a total 'mare?!

Hi all,

Looking for another RRS for the family. I saw this on PH a number of times. Clearly you guys are experts in the myriad of issues RRS that have been damaged/misused can face. Is this a total no-hoper?

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2319349.htm

Never bought CAT D before...

Thanks for having me btw.

Its the above or a 2005 Vogue with 2010 conversion. Anyone think that is a decent idea?

It could be worth a look at that price but very thorough look Exclamation Exclamation

If he cannot be bothered to get repair done or even clean it up to advertize it then what else has he not bothered with.

Any car needs love and attention Exclamation

I wouldn't touch with a barge pole!
He says it was damaged 3 years ago, so it was only about 2 years old when damaged. He then says it was
very light panel damage. So, lets see, a 2 year old RRS SE would have been worth lets say a minimum of £25k
at that point.

Definition of CAT D :-
A Category C or D write-off is one that insurers consider unecomonical to repair but one that could, given enough time in the workshop, be repaired and returned to the road.

Is he seriously saying that it would have been CAT D'd because of "light" panel damage... Sorry, I think he's telling porkies Evil or Very Mad ..... IMHO of course Whistle 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

I wouldn't touch it, the fault with the white smoke would be enough to put me off.
Also, i'd be concerned about selling on a cat d car when i fancied a change, limited audience i feel....

Don't touch it, it clearly has had a lot of damage and is in dreadful condition. Regarding a real Range Rover with a facelift don't bother with that either, the L322 is far to clever for it's own good and has so many things that go wrong such as gearboxes, steering columns, air suspension and compressors to name a few.. Couple of things do not ring true here.

Firstly -

Quote:
I have been told that there is very common problem passably causing this. That being the EGR valves. These can either be replaced at a cost of around£400 or removed and blanked off.

If you are selling a car for £16500 then surely it is worth spending the £400 to rectify this "seemingly" common fault. Any buyer willing to consider purchasing this vehicle will instantly aim to absorb the cost of the repair in their negotiation anyway.

Secondly -
Quote:
It was damaged about 3 years ago and is recorded as cat-d. This was only light panel damage along the side of the car.

Now Cat D is defined as - Category D is an insurance write off that typically was rated at more than 60% but less than 100% of the car's cost to repair.

There is no way "VERY LIGHT PANEL DAMAGE" would be listed as CAT D on this on a car of such value.

Category D's are generally more expensive to insure also.

WALK AWAY would be my advice.
