Yes, the connections in the locking system have corroded - mine did this in January and I had to wait until March for the replacement complete upper tailgate to arrive as they were "On back................................." you've guessed it! My local dealer told me it was easier to replace the entire uppertailgate with a new one than to dismantle the old one and fit a new locking mechanism - I suspect it was only easier on labour costs as mine was a warranty claim. Anyway I have a complete new upper tailgate and no RRSport.co.uk sticker as they didn't take it off the old screen! Am very pleased with the colour match on my new section - brand new tailgate while the rest of the rear is 33 months old, you cannot tell it isn't the original upper section

Try peeling a corner of the rubber press pad back and see if any water comes out - mine had a lot of water inside. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Had the same problem. Dealer changed the opening switch by number plate lights.
Was told very common they just done a 09 plate.

I bought mine with this problem and when the dealer had it in for a few warrenty issues the had to replace just the glass as apparently the whole design floor is that the wire run through the glass and the terminations corrode.
Mine all done and working Razz

How can you get the upper hatch to release if the button is faulty?

I don't see a way to release it? I keep telling myself 'It's a toy'
But I've broken quite a lot of toys in my time.....

I thought you had to be able to open the hatch to be able to program the key??

The way it learns is to do the programming while opening the hatch I believe?

Don't think that would help if the mechanism is faulty

I think the lock is fine, as I've opened it in the last few days, i think it's the switch. (it's all wet and white inside!!)

It's just getting it open again to refit a new switch.

Does anyone have instructions for removal and refitting, as i've ordered another switch. I keep telling myself 'It's a toy'
But I've broken quite a lot of toys in my time.....
