United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Tangiers Orange
G4 Sport

Hi

I have just come over from the Defender and D3 forum for a little advice.

I currently own a Defender and am looking at trading in for a D3, but have just been offered quite an attractive deal on a Factory G4 Sport. The car is a 55 plate used in the 2006 G4 event.

My questions,

The car is a 4.4 petrol, what kind of MPG could I expect ?.

Will it be difficult to insure, specialised market ?

Is a RRS as capable as a D3 offroad ?

Thanks for any help

Richard

Welcome Richard - I seem to think the 4.4 will give you about 16mpg, not sure about insurance but it shouldn't be that different and the RRS is every bit as capable as the D3 offroad. It's wading depth is a little less and it's exit angle is a little less because of the rear bumper apart from that it's the same car with some refinements. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Boots a lot smaller, driving position cramped and less choice of offroad goodies would be the only real difference. That and you won't get mistaken fir a drug dealer driving a D3!! Ner Ner

But driving a D3 you will be asked for a quote to tarmac someone's drive! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Rather a dealer than a Pikey Evil or Very Mad

The boot space is hindered by the sloping back, but is deceptive how much room their is.

Engine seems to be pretty problem free.

Plastic sills on doors can be vunerable off road but are cheap and easy to replace.

A car to draw the looks though

Cool

I have one, it's great. With the rack on, expect about 14mpg, with it off expect about 18mpg or more, depending on what tyres you have on it. I'm running D3 sized Pirelli ATR's and get about 19mpg if I'm gentle, 15mpg round town. Running MTR's on it will muller the economy so I'm told, I've not used them yet though.

I've put 30k miles on mine in the last 12 months and can't see me changing it for a while yet. Ex-G4 Challenge RRS HSE, BV55 YZE. Subtle shade of orange ! Now registered YZE481 G4RRS in Melbourne.

I can confirm running MTR's does make a difference on your MPG. When i'm running nice sensiible Wrangler F1's I can get around 29mpg on my TDV6 but when i swap to the MTR's for winter driving/muddy excursions then I struggle to get over 22mpg ! Christ, I don't even *get* 22mpg so I'm Censored if I'm going to be putting MTR's on it for any length of time Laughing
