It's funny, when I drove both back to back iin September I could not really tell the difference, but then it was only briefly and both felt so slow compared to the Jag. It was also unmapped TDV8. How was your insurance affected by remapping it?

And anyways, it's time someone rementioned the 4.4 TDV8 and the RRS - when's it coming?! L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

Thanks for the write up ilard. Have been told by a few people that the 3.0ltr is a bit quicker off the line too(than the v8)The v8 is a great engine but not as much in it as v8 current owners would have you believe! Wink

See my post we have both and sorry they do not compare off the line the TDv8 murders our 3.0 with a map on both even my wife who does not drive them hard always comments on the diff between the two engines.

I think the 3.0 lends itself as a good daily car but not if you want the car to work for you esp if you are pulling a bit of weight behind you then its real chalk and cheese. The V8 is also far more refined in terms of cabin noise and Torque across the range.

My experience of moving from the 3.0 TDV6 to a TDV8 is slightly different. I found the 3.0 noticeably quicker off the mark, it doesn't have the delay the TDV8 suffers from. Where the TDV8 does murder the 3.0 is in the mid range punch.

I've also found the TDV8 noisier in the cabin, although it is a nice V8 noise Smile. It also certainly a more refined experience just slightly noisier. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

Some pics of the rrs i'm looking for to replace my "old" tdv8, i'm in discussion with my dealer.
what do you think of this tdv6 autobiography?
i'm not totally convinced in comparison with v8...the look is amazing but no dynamic response, no brembo's, no V8' noise...

I went V8 Autobiography Smile It now looks like a great deal against the V6 when you add the toys to the 3.0

Brembo's are no longer available i think but to be honest the newer bigger brakes are just as good if not better just do not look as good. 2014 5.0SC AB

New Autobiography has all those options as standard here in uk except brembos, but as Tboner says the brakes are bigger. Thumbs Up

For Dynamic response are you sure?
it's an option for the V6 call " dynamic pack" (dynamic response and adaptative dynamic for 3200€)
The autobiography on the pic i'm looking for don't have this pack. RRS TDV8 HSE java black, privacy glass, bluetooth, clear side repetears.

I thought Dynamic response was now standard for MY11, on the HSE at least. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Tough one, I wanted another TDv8 RRS and was really disappointed when LR dropped it from the range. I took the FFRR route with the 3.6TDV8 and would have loved a 4.4 but it was just too expensive for my meagre means and being new there are no offers of discounts. There are a few ex-demo 3.6 TDV8 FFRR's around in dealers and I don't regret moving back to a FFRR after nearly 6 years of RRS ownership. My TDv8 RRS was the best all round car I have ever owned (I came to RRS from a FFRR in 2005) and LR have made a huge mistake not re-engineeering the RRS to take the 4.4, which is a peach of an engine and if it were introduced into a 2010 style RRS I would have one tomorrow. I test drove the 3.0TDv6 and even though I'm not a sporty type driver I just found it lacked something that the TDv8 had, something that is hard to put a finger on................ Oh I know what I really miss from the TDV8 too, despite knocks and wheezes, and that is the DR, it's only after you haven't got it you realise what a huge difference it makes to the way the car handles, even if you don't drive it like an F1 driver all the time.
The 4.4TDv8 FFRR has Brembos and the next generation of DR and drives superbly and once your are used to it the FFRR doesn't feel like the huge car it is. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

4.4 TDv8 with the eight speed is awesome shame it does not fit in the chassis of the RRS maybe the 2012-13 car will have it who knows.

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Rimini Red

Sounds like I am in a similar boat. My chipped RRS TDv8 is nearer 4 years old with 66k miles on her. She fits like a glove, does everything I need her to do brilliantly and I can't think of any other car I would rather have right now. The comfort factor also stems from the fact that the depreciation has slowed down and the interior is moulded to my shape. I know and trust her very well and she has never let me down. In the recent snow and ice she has performed superbly - more than life enhancing, almost life saving.

The wife has a D4 TDv6 and there is no doubt that is a superb engine. But the beauty of the TDv8 is the overall easy power that it just loves to pour out. The TDv8 bathes you in warm creamy torque whereas the TDv6 showers you in it.

So I am keeping the £30k to change in my pocket and will continue to enjoy my TDv8 for a couple more years yet. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini
