Well I Have Heard It All Now!!!!

Had my car in for several issues, one which was steering wheel shimmy at 50 70mph covered under LTB00030v2, arrives to pick it up today and was informed that they had balanced the wheels as per the TB and had then gone onto ordering the new steering rack as instructed in the TB.

Now this is where it goes beyond belief, Land Rover have refused to authorise the work on the steering rack because................................................................................................ Wait for it............................

I have the wrong tyres fitted Shocked , apparently i have Hankook Ventus fitted and they are correct in evry way except they are W rated and not Y rated therefore LR have declined to carry out the TB, so question to Land Rover is, if i go home and swap the tyres for ones that are Y rated will you do the job Question

Having reviewed the tech spec for both speed ratings i find that both are rated for speed far in excess of the RRS capability just adding to insult of the customers intelligence Evil or Very Mad

Does anybody have a set of 20" wheels and tyres that are Y rated that i can borrow for a few days Whistle

This has to be one of the weakest excuses i have ever heard to get out of doing the work Evil or Very Mad

Can anybody supply me with the name and address for the top honcho at LR UK, i feel a letter writing moment coming on

Npinks - You did say there warranty work was poor, i am questioning how hard they pushed, not as far as i am going to.

I see no where in any T&C's or manual that your warranty is invalid if you fit W rated tyres Mad

W rating 168 mph and Y rating 186 mph Shocked

Considering legal speed limit 70 mph - "W rating" is well in and this is very bad customer service/PR Crying or Very sad

My little trick is to threaten any car related company being awkward with a written complaint to Evo magazine.

Honestly it makes the Censored jump!

The thing is that the service manager at Armstrong Massey York tells me that they asked to do the work and it was Land Rover direct that have refused permission on the tyre rating basis Shocked

If i can get the name and address for the main man at LR i will write asking for an explanation and put copy to Sunday Times Motoring, Watchdog and Hankook Evil or Very Mad mite even throw in North Yorkshire Trading Standards for good luck

It must have been the dealer that told LR about the tyres, how else would they have known? I can't help but think the dealer isn't totally blameless in this. Dealers are normally paranoid that the warranty claim won't be paid and that they would then be out of pocket. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

I agree with RichardM, obviously the dealer told LR about the tyres. The whole reason so pathetic to be honest, I can hardly believe it. There must be something else behind it. It makes no sense, since you can change the tyres and come back what then? Very very suspicious Question Fair enough if you had insanely big rims, like 22"+ then they could argue, but tyres... I suspect LR could argue about V rated tyres then...

James, could you please give us your opinion on this? Confused Vadim A.

It's Censored like this that I don't bother with AM anymore

I have spoke to few people and they say the same servicing good but warranty work is as if they don't want it, funny as it not like they don't get paid for it if they actually do the work

They most lose loads on looking at stuff for warranty, I sent my first LR to them for various warranty jobs only for nothing to be found Rolling Eyes and it stll be doing it when I got it back

Shame a dealership has a reputation for this kind of Censored

Though I can also see them having to provide LRCS there tyre ratings so they might have a part in the response

i have a spare set of wheels but think i may be a little far away but the offer is there if you need it, had a similar wheel shmmey and as the car came with 19" wheels i kept them when i upgraded to 20" in case it went back, which it did, but blamed it an the engin harmonics. They must have a book of them.

Just a note though i went to my dealer the other week to pick up one of my friends and they had a 2 year old HST with Hankooks on, so does that invalidale the warrenty as soon as you buy it? might be worth having a look at your dealers cars to see if they have cars for sale that do not meet LR standards

Cheers yogibear i will let you know, i am trying the letter to the CEO of LR as first point of call if i can find his details.

Npinks i think you are correct, they told me that they had to take a phot of the tyres and send to LR. AM have alwayds been a pain for carrying out warranty work. I will give James a call also

Is there any difference between the load index on the W and Y tyres? It does seem to be a bit petty but if Y rated tyres are recommended then any variation gives LR the excuse needed to decline the repair costs obviously.

Hi Leeds,

You could pay to get a list of the directors of the warranty company from Companies House, it should give you all of their home addresses to send a copy of your letter. This has worked for me and friends in the past in getting action when all else seemed to fail.

Writing direct to the chief whip of a big company inevitabily never actually gets to them anyway as the PA (whoever) will pass it back in to the Customer Service stream for a standard response (fob off!).

To me you have an excellent point. Good luck!

Cheers,

Mark
