Winter Tyres on 20" wheels?

Anyone know if you can fit winter tyres on the standard HSE 20" wheels or do you have to buy a set of 19" wheels
to accomodate the beefier tyres? 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black
2013 Evoque 5 Door Pure Tech SD4 - Orkney Grey with Panoramic Roof (Mrs E's new baby)

GONE - RRS - 3.0 TDV6 HSE - Santorini (2010)

As above really

However it is debatably better to have smaller/narrower rubber on at this time of year
The handbook also rec's 19's for winter although in a slightly odd size which suggests some cozying up with a tyre manufacturer Smile
Plus the 20" Wintracs are ££££££ more than the 19's

I fitted a set of 19's last month and the price differential easily covered the price of a S/H set of alloys

Cheers!

Cheers for the feedback chaps. Had a very scary moment last night that resulted in some slight damage to the car. Will need a replacement bumper, which is no real hassle, main thing is I managed to avoid rear ending an old Corsa with a Baby in the back seat Shocked The guys at the body shop were saying that the Conti's on the 2010 RRS's are completely Sh*te in anything but dry conditions. I have to say this has been my experience too, they are very poor in the wet and if you catch a puddle they become very unstable. As for the snow!....... don't even get me started on that one Evil or Very Mad I'm actually shocked that LR would fit such an inappropriate tyre on a car like the RRS. I think I will have a look at some 19" rims with winter tyres on..... Can't really afford it at the moment.... but then again, when carrying my wife & baby I can'r really afford not too!! 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Jeeesus Endjin...I saw my life flash by me today how I didn't go down a 15 foot embankment this morning i will never know!!! Censored 1" of snow and it was like f*****g Torvill and Dean ...this time last year i had the Audi S8 and i can swear it could do things on ice and snow that would totally shame my RRS on these tyres. I cannot and will not risk my life or anyone elses for matter therefore I have ordered 4X 275/40R20 Vredestein Wintrac Extremes from Tyremen for £770 delivered to Dundee... My advice to anyone with a RRS and running Continentals this winter is GET RID NOW!!!!! before someone gets seriously hurt or worse still gets killed!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello fellas,

I do not understand why did not anyone suggest the same brand tyres but different size. Of course 275/40/20 is very wide, but what about 255/50/20!

Here is the link: http://tyremen.myshopify.com/products/2555...-xtreme-xl

I just ordered these today.
Regards, Vadim A.

Fitting 19" wheels is the way to go.

With the weather the way it is, I'm glad I did. Very Happy

After a little moment last year on brand spanking new continentals, i started the look for a decent set of 19" wheels for winter tyres, got lucky on ebay and found original range rover wheels just been refurbed (like new) of an 06 rangey, purchased a set of vredestein wintrac 4 255/55/19 @ £133/corner, got them put on the car today so feel a lot more confident to cope with this winter. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Whats the betting we dont see a bloody flake of snow in Berkshire Big Cry Big Cry MY10 3.0 HSE Santorini Black, Ivory Premium & extended leather, privacy, paddles, diamond turned alloys, Ipod lead that charges, tasmods, rrsport.co.uk stickers

Ok guys, some advice needed!!

Im trying to buy winter tyres for my S/C and it seems every man and his dog is buying Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme and now there seems to be a shortage!! Also its not helping me because Im on a ship sailing down through the Red Sea heading for Abu Dhabi and ordering online is becoming a nightmare!!

So Iv found three sets of tyres, General AT 275/40R20, Vredestein 275/40R20 or Vredestein 245/40R20.

Would rather have the narrower tyres but will the 245s fit on a standard S/C alloy wheel???

Anybody used the General ATs yet in the snow?????

Im flying back to Aberdeen in 10 days times so would like the tyres for when I get home!! Thumbs Up

Hi
Had mine fitted this afternoon.
I then went dashing through the snow.
What a fantastic tyre, the girp is brilliant even when cornering at speed.
Leaving the snow behind, the ride is much softer and smoother than my original continentals.
I must say I am supprised by how quiet they are, even at speed.

Overall Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Hi,

I'm running the 20" 275 Pirelli Snow & Ice and have found them excellent so far. Ditched the Conti's as soon as the word "bad weather" was mentioned, as they are useless.

Once you have winter tyres on, the RRS really comes into its own. Very Happy
