Speaking of which, would you recommend getting 18" or 19" wheels?

Thing about winter tyres for trips to alps is they are a legal requirement in southern Germany and if you get stuck (or have an incident) you will be blamed. Vast oversimplification but that's the gist of it! If it was me with my D3 looking for winter tyres it would be 18"ers as wheels are cheaper, tyres are cheaper and more sidewall squish so better on rough roads & pot holes.

Thank you for your replies. JC1, yes I have 2010 supercharged. So I guess I am going for 19". I was looking at some 20" winter tires too, I might be getting these

The size would be 275/50/20, a bit too wide though.

Or ContiCrossContract Tires sized as 255/50/20.

What do you think?

Vadim - Narrower tyres will always be better in the snow, i have gone for vredestein Wintrac extreme 4's 255/55/19 not put them on yet but will be very soon.

Oh that's great, I will check it Wintrac 20", I would not like to buy another set of wheels just for winter and sadly I do not do offroading.
