Guys read in a italian published magazine today that the 3.6tdv8 is going to be replaced by the 4.4tdv8. Price 88000 euros.

I really hope so - I really can't get on with my TDV6 (despite the fact that all the bits actually work and at the same time compared to the TDV8) after being forcibly downgraded by LR. The question is can I stomach giving more cash to LR to get the car I should have been delivered last September?

No - its a good enough engine but I originally got the TDV8 because of its mid range torque which I find really useful for motorway driving - pulling across lanes on the busy motorways around me (70% of driving) it helps to have a car which quickly picks up between 50 and 70mph so you can quickly accelerate to the new lane speed. The TDV6 does it but it changes down and in my view struggles a bit at the higher revs to produce the required torque. The TDV8 was effortless - didn't need to chnage down but just delivered a wall of torque across a wider (and lower) rev range.

I suspect if you could find it, the TDV6 has a peak in a plot of torque vs rev range to enable LR to quote the 600NM stat. I would expect the TDV8 to have a large flat area around its stated max torque output of 640NM - i.e. the torque is available across a much wider rev range. It depends how important this characteristic is - the TDV6 with the lack of turbo lag is undoubtedly faster from a standstill but how often do you want to floor a 2.5ton car from the lights - and not have your passengers complaining and throwing up?
