LR have been selling a Defender 90 model that does that and more for years (well at least 5 years!) - it the Born Free liveried Defender90 and it even has a gear change between 2WD and 4WD that works................................
BMW are very slow on the marketing front. About 3 Christmas's ago WH Smith's in the UK sold an RRS S/C model that could do those things too but it wasn't a very nice model as it had HUGE front and rear bumper car bumpers!
I have one that has never come out of the box, I also have the LR Defender90 R/C model2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Tim, is not marketed by BMW.
It's a company that modify existing Die cast models, installing all the lights. Just thought is quite a nice work.
Did not see the Def. model, doubt a bit that is has the same features, but as I said I never saw it.
I have the big r/c model(with trailer and power boat), agree is not too nice, but can be fun(and if I remember it only has front and backup lights)
The one posted by Skywalker(the r/c one) is much smaller but a lot better made and detailed, also only front and backup lights. (Skywalker, for your nephew, yea right )
The Autoart one is a very nice model, very well made and a lots of details, unfortunately it has the steering wheel on the wrong side and is a Supercharged.'08 RRS TDV8
I converted my diesel RRS to run on an environmentally friendly mixture of caribou fat and baby seals oil
