2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Galway Green

The new TDV6 has much better response off the line than the TDV8 due to the sequential twin turbos. It will pull away much faster. It also offers around 4mpg more. I only get 24-25mpg from the TDV8 (I'm heavy with my right foot) but I got 28-29mpg from the 3.0 TDV6.

But the TDV8 is much more refined, it sounds soo much better and has far greater mid range punch. The TDV6 sounds and feels dull in comparison but I do miss that instant response of the new engine. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

The TDV8 is by far the better engine - I was forced to trade down when my extremely faulty MY10 TDV8 was finally replaced by a TDV6 by LR as they had just stopped manafacturing the TDV8. The TDV6 isn't bad at all but you miss most the mid range torque that allows you to pull into the fast lane on the motorway and quickly accelerate - the TDV8 does it with ease, the TDV6 drops down a gear and reluctantly wheezes but with none of instant kick of its 8 cylinder cousin. The paper comparison is very misleading and I suspect if LR included the 50-70 acceleration times the TDV8 would be 30%+ quicker - compensating for the turbo lag giving it a similar 0-60 time on paper as the TDV6, which is undoubtedly quicker to pull away from a standing start.

Still trying to work out if I can live with the TDV6

First drive impressions - who would bother to buy a 5.0ltr S/C? This is as fast and can do 34mpg and has lower emissions! And in FFRR guise is all but silent, even the wind noise around the A pillar is gone 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Just been driving a TDV6 for a few days as mine was back in the shop again. I found that the fuel economy was noticeably better, about 4 mpg as mentioned by Richard, and more responsive off the line. It's also more quiet in the car, but coming from my TDV8 that is a negative point... Nice and smooth though, but getting back into mine it just gets on with it without really trying, bags more mid range punch and of course that lovely V8 sound!

So all in all this new lump is not to bad, little less mid range, just as quick off the line and uses less fuel. About right?Plus i hear the 2011 is a little quicker as well. Thanks for the answers.

Has anyone with a TDV8 compared the new 5.0V8 against the TDV6 as I am still not sure which way to go when I change over next year

I hope you are right 2nd rower as I read Tim's review on the new TDV8 4.4 and it sounds like the perfect step up from the now outdate TDV8 3.6. If they don't put it in the sports then i will have to go for the 5.0 V8.
