Ordered a new switch from the bay to see if it works before trying the new tailglass option...
Here is what I found when removing the switch;

The inside of the switch was very wet, plastic all discoloured and in poor condition.
The metal contactors within were completely corroded.
Everything else within the tailgate was bone dry and not corroded, removed the number plate bulb housing and still no water, just in the switch!

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Mine was actually fixed while I was away - my father was driving the car to give it it's monthly exercise run and had a turbo sensor failure so the car was taken into the local dealer who were replacing the tailgate and did the 2 jobs at once. The new tailgate came into the dealers on the 4th March, the day I went to sea again and they held it until either I or the car came in, so from ordering to receipt was about a month but it does seem to be a bit taking a sledge-hammer to crack a nut doing it that way when you see how easy it is to repair yourself if you have the know-how. The problem is after you have repaired it how do you get the whole thing watertight so it does happen again. Would be interesting to know it it only happens to cars kept outside rather than garaged as to me the water that came out was condesation rather than road water thrown up while driving, it was too clean and "fresh" (it's OK I'm used to doing the "is it fresh water or not" test from the ships where it is important to know if any unaccounted for water in the ship is sea water or freshwater and tasting it is the easiest, if not the most sensible way of finding out as it could of course not be water at all!!) 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Was thinking about some clear silicon sealant between the rubber surround and the switch plastic backing. As it seems that's the only wet area. May try it with the old switch and see if water gets in it whilst i await delivery of the new switch mine lives outside and it's raining all weekend i reckon. 2005 (55) RRS 4.2 V8 S/C Buckingham Blue

Got the new tailglass switch today and replaced the old one. It seems that LR realised their problem with this switch as the new switch had a tar like substance fixing and sealing the rubber switch surround to the plastic switch housing. Still no damp within the tailgate but there was plenty of damp again within the switch which i had dried out and replaced last week. All working and one happy owner again. No tailglass replacement required.

Over and out. 2005 (55) RRS 4.2 V8 S/C Buckingham Blue

Pleased to help. Had you already removed your current switch and made sure it was only this that was the problem and not a lot of water penetration in the entire lid? I did this and luckily found it was only the switch but as you can see, others had bigger issues other than just the switch. Hope it fixes it for ya. I know it is quite a simple swap over but I have made a video of me swapping mine over and shall try and upload it later/tomorrow for others.

Hi again, what i did was programmed the key fob 3 button to check that it opens and seeing as it did that would mean the switch itself has perished, well thats my reasoning lol If it aint broke leave it!

Ok, makes sense, how did ya program the key fob if the button didn't work though? I tried that...
I also knew the lock worked because of the beauty of the LR electronics, their popped everytime I put the key into the ignition! Was annoying so much that we ended up being in stitches because it would happen all the time and then never for ages. 2005 (55) RRS 4.2 V8 S/C Buckingham Blue

If I'm honest i think it was already programmed for the switch as you know you need to hold the button in and the switch together to program it, so that would mean the contacts would be working then the switch would be, i just never thought of it before i tried until you mentioned it Embarassed Whistle If it aint broke leave it!
