Check brake pads!

I am away in Somerset for a week and the warning has just come on. My question is and I know will depend on driving style but roughly how much life is left in the pads when the warning appears?

Thanks

Warning comes on at approx 3mm left, so you have some time yet (As you say, dependant on driving style). Get it sdone whenyou get back if the bings and bongs haven't made you insane by then Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

When my rear pads went there was at least 1000 miles left in the pads without getting close to 'metal to metal' which would damage the discs!
However when my fronts went, one side was practically down to the metal....this was the side that did not have the sensor fitted so went past a safe point before I even realised.

The simple answer is....there is no simple answer without actually looking at the pads to see how much meat is left on them.

Depending on what wheels you have fitted you might be able to get a small mirror and torch to have a look at the pads without removing the wheels to confirm.

If you are away from home and want the piece of mind why not visit a local tyre fitter to see how much he will charge you to remove the wheels to inspect them for you.....most should do that for about £20 if they are quiet.
