The old ones roar as well, usually on first start up of the day when engine cold, lasts longer in colder weather |

Thanks guys. This is definately a new sound - just started today. I have checked the other hoses and they seem OK. I agree a split seems a likely cause - not good after 3000 miles. I guess a trip to the dealer is called for. 14.5MY SDV6 HSE Dynamic Indus silver/lunar/ebony 20" wheels, InControl, full-size spare, electric tow bar, adaptive xenons, adaptive cruise control, auto main beam assist. It was the viscous fan. Dealer tried to tell me it was normal. "So", I asked, "why did it only start doing it yesterday after 3000 miles and why didn't the car I test drove twice before placing my order do it?" He hadn't really got an answer to that, so up came the bonnet and he disconnected & then reconnected a plug coming from the fan housing. Apparently that will re-set it (whatever "it" is). Fair play, it has stopped making the noise now. Let's hope it stays that way. I'm happy with my RRS again |

Erm...I had this happen 5 years ago on a new TDV6 within 30 mins of picking it up. Had to go back. Hose not connected properly in the factory at back of engine block and dropped off. Took over an hour to put it back on. Sounded like a jumbo jet. TDV6 - gone

Old stager, has there been a couple of cool/cold nights recently in your area, because that can also trigger the viscous fan 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Probably not as cool as in your part of the world ![]() ![]() PS wonder why it's noisier when cold...would have thought the fan needed to be working less then. Or maybe it's the noise of the vicous coupling working harder (i.e. stopping the fan from wizzing round) ![]() IN THE GARAGE: BMW i8 - the mid-life crisis continues and it's great fun. |

I never had it with the TDv8 I had but occasionally it happened with the TDv6 I had before that and it happened every cold day (lower than about 5C) when I had the L322 FRR between 2003 and 2005 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tim, this is totally off topic now, but how do you find the FFRR handles compared with your previous RRS? Do you tend to press on a bit? Is body roll/grip an issue? I was persuaded by the salesman to go for the Sport - I came out of a BMW 7 Series, which handled very well for a car of its size/weight and I do enjoy a spirited drive now and again. Not that I'm unhappy with the Sport, but I might consider the FF next time. 14.5MY SDV6 HSE Dynamic Indus silver/lunar/ebony 20" wheels, InControl, full-size spare, electric tow bar, adaptive xenons, adaptive cruise control, auto main beam assist.
