Hi Nick,
They're jacking hooks. The 427 S/C was originally conceived as a race car and the hooks were to assist with wheel changes during pit stops. Now though, they only serve to bash your shins on in the garage.
The bodywork wasn't polished when I first imported it, but the end result is quite striking I think.

I took it to Le Mans this summer for the Classic and got the chance to take it for a few laps on the closed circuit. It was pretty busy and there was a wide variety of skill levels, so I took it vary carefully, but there is some in-car video on YouTube if you're interested:
