Hi all

I've just had a frustrating few days having had my '07 RRS serviced at a local main dealer (this is my first post and i'm not sure of the protocol re naming and shaming so i won't) and am unsure whether i'm right or wrong.

I was told during the service that i needed both sets of brake pads replacing, despite having the fronts done last time. Apparently the rears were "down to the metal" whilst the fronts were "89% worn". Knowing how expensive the pads for Brembo brakes are, i gave them the ok to change the rears but decided to investigate further before doing anything with the fronts.

Having found this site, i read a great thread on changing pads and realised that i could do them myself. I called at Euro Car Parts and bought a set of pads for £40, planning to fit them on Saturday. The old pads came out really easily, just as the thread said it would, but far from being 89% worn, they looked less than half that. I decided that they didnt need changing....



Exremely annoyed i sent an email to the dealer, accusing them of deliberately misleading me and to be fair got a call from them this morning. Interestingly, and hence my post, despite telling me very specifically that the pads were 89% worn, they only actually inspect them by eye, and with the pads still in the caliper!!! The best that they could offer was to re-check the pads if i took the car to them.

Has anyone else had a similar experience and if so what did you get as an outcome?

Name & Shame them!

This smacks of the old fashioned Rip Off the customer for as much as you can scam!

They would NEVER have expected you to physically compare Old & New Pads yourself & therefore
you have well & truely caught them red handed. As for their excuse of "they were in the calipers
& could only be inspected by eye"... What a load of cock..... These guys service these parts day in day out,
are they seriously saying that they are so crap at their job that they can't tell the difference between perfectly

That is very interesting VA. I might just do that actually. but I read somewhere that there are only 2 sensors installed. One in front (left or right wheel), and another rear one. So if one without the sensor gets used out you never find out about it... True or flase?

Only one sensor on each wheel, have been reports of un-even wear, which has caught people out, but not that often.

Sensors in front left and right rear pads.

The front brake pad wear sensor is connected in series with the rear brake pad wear sensor, between the instrument cluster and ground.

When a brake pad incorporating a brake pad wear sensor is approximately 75% worn, the brake pad wear sensor goes open circuit. When the instrument cluster detects the open circuit, it illuminates the amber LED (light emitting diode) in the brake warning indicator, displays an appropriate warning in the message center and sounds a warning chime.

I have had 3 sets of pads all round and on 2 occasions they have marked the discs quite badly - even at Wokkas day out my pads were screeching like nuts and has a sensor ever shown up on my display? NEVER!! How's that then?

I had an MOT in March where I was told the front brake pads needed replacing, which they did. The car was booked in the next week for a yr3 service where I was told the front brake pads were 30% worn! I had only done about 100mls since replacement!
