New Member - looking to buy RRS, with questions...!

Morning all, I've been lurking for a week or so checking out the forum and the range of RRS out there. Wink

I'm looking to change up my BMW e46 330i 'vert to something a little more practical that 1) can handle carrying an IKEA flat pack chest of draws without it destroying the interior, and 2) won't get me wet when it rains. Laughing

One problem though, the beemer is a bit of a |tightqueeze| into my garage (I don't have an outside space at my flat so car goes into the garage), so I need the *practical* width of the RRS. Numbers seem to vary as it's unclear which numbers are body width, mirrors in, mirrors out etc.

Can anyone please help with this?

Also, I've looking at the petrol options on the engines but am a little confused by the shorthand lingo that you guys are using - could someone please clarify the trim/engines for me, thanks!

In exchange, here's pic of my e46 at the BMW day at Brooklands - a gorgeous sunny day out pootling round what's left of the original banked track.

Thanks in advance, and look forward to chatting with you all,
Si

Welcome Psy.

With regards to the petrol engines you basically have one choice known as the Supercharged (SC for short) There was a non SC engine available - a 4.4 V8 for the early models of the RRS but not now. The SC is now available as a 5.0 ltr.

Trim - The HSE was the top spec but this is now been superceded by the Autobiography Sport. The HSE sits just below followed by SE. Pre 2010 models existed in HSE, SE and S formats with a special XS (I think!) introduced at some point as a base model to replace the S. All SC are HSE. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

Hi VA, thanks for the response.

I'll be looking at ~2005/6 models on my budget (not far north of 22k...) so sadly a September '10 Autobiography may be out of reach... Wink

Well then you will be looking at a 4.2 Supercharged or a 4.4 normal (Very rare and I think only available in the UK as a G4 event vehicle) The SC will give you about 13mpg!!!!!! If I were you I would try and pick up a 1st edition 2005 SC in orange - Cool 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

For £22K and a petrol you will be looking at 2005 '05' or '55'................there are a few 4.4 HSE's on Land Rover Used Vehicle finder and plenty of SC's.

Here's a nice looking colour coded Vesuvius first edition SC

Thanks guys - there is a red 4.4 on Autotrader too that looks good...

Did the First Editions have any special features the following ones didn't, or is it just the name?

Also, anyone have any thoughts on the measurements... (garage is 2190mm across at narrowest, point where the door mechanism encroaches into the frame).

PS - If I bought an orange RRS, I'd HAVE to buy a snorkle and deck it out in G4 livery... Wink

Cheers,
Si

The Vesuvius Orange was only available as a 1st edition option. It's a metalic orange different to the G4 Tangiers Orange. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

The RRS is 2170mm wide to the outside of the mirrors so with the mirrors folded in you could theoretically fit it in but I doubt you'd be able to get out of the door!!

First edition is just the name I think, so extras from the norm.

Cheers again guys, that really helps.

The interior of the garage is much wider - I may in future replace the garage door with something that that doesn't have the cantilevers etc that intrude on the width.

You've given me things to think about, so thanks!

Best,
Si

Just tried to measure for you which is quite hard on your own Laughing Roughly 2000mm with mirrors folded so I would say it would be very tight and probably wouldn't be able to open the door enough.
Were in London are you?

Haha, thanks DJ! Surprised

It's an up and over door, so it slides onto tracks inside the garage.
Once IN the garage, it's quite a bit wider, with the car over to one side, I can get out of the beemer comfortably.
There is a guy in one of the other flats with a Buck blue RRS (seeing his up close made me realise the 'want' factor), so I'll introduce myself and ask him to have a go.

"Hi, how you doing? I've just moved here. Um, that car of yours, can we try something a sec to see if it rips the wing mirrors off..."

I'm in Putney, SW London.

Alternatively, I could just see if anyone wants to sell their unused outdoor space, and I'll rent out the garage to a car club company!

EDIT:
Sod it, I'll just sell some equity in my house and buy this thing: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2006-Land-Rover-Rang...271wt_1137

Thumbs Up If you were more local I would have popped round and tried it for size.

The one in the link would be nice. No probs with the width of the garage either as the drivers door would still be out on the road Laughing

Oh wow...
Mike... That is the most beautiful thing ever! Wish there were more pics up.
Honestly, if I had £28k to spend on a car, right now, I would buy that. Smile

DJ - thanks, that's kind of you. Still trying to work out who owns the RRS at my building without leaving a socially awkward note on his windscreen asking if he wants to be friends... Wink
