MY2010 Tow Bar fitting

Hi Guys, i was planning on fitting my own LR tow bar as i did on my 2005 RRS, very easy job...or so i thought.

I already have the swan neck curtiousy of ebay and i decided to pop into the local stealer to pick up a 2 plug wiring loom only to be told its now a massive job as the back bumper has to come off because of the extra wires that have to be exchanged for the pdc's and the comfort access and also that the wires have to go in the top and not just clipped in like on the 2005. then I am told the car has to be programmed to work properly so that it does a whole host of things like disabling the rear pdc when you connect a trailer etc.

now its no big deal as the back bumper is coming off soon so that the overfinch one can go on so i was hoping they would let me throw the wires in while they have the back bumper off but coding!!!!!! LR want an hours labour for that.

does anyone have any expierence of this as i didnt have to do any of this on my 2005

hi,
i watched the auto electrician do mine last week, and he did not remove bumper, he did however remove the rear passenger side panel in the boot and also the boot carpet and polystyrene tray under it - must say there are a lot of wires in there!!! i was told that when the light board is connected it shows an additional indicator to remind you you are towing, and also that it ajusts the revs (shifts up sooner?) when towing, so it is not really a diy job, unless you have done that before!!! i got mine done for not much more than the cost of the parts.
cheers

Done

Well 3 hours after the original cry for help and its installed. Codfather.. do you have comfort access because it must be imposible to get to the boot sensor module without removing the bumper skin, which by the way was so easy to remove.

just now need to test it plugged into the father inlaws trailer and see if it de activates the PDC.

if anyone wants to do this install I would be more than happy to advise.

neil,
auto electrics is a foreign language to me, thats why i got someone else to do it! Wink

he put it on a ramp, and droped the spare out of the way, maybe that is how he did it, out of interest why do you need access to the boot module, power?

glad you got it sorted

Hi Codfather..think i know what the difference is

you have an SE correct?

I dont think the SE has the keyless entry.

on the HSE it has keyless entry and the sensor that knows when you have the key in your pocket when opening the boot is locater in the middle of the back bumper and its not accessable unless you take off the bumper skin.

the replacement loom that you have to fit to install the towbar electrics also has other wires that to be replaced that go between the main module in the left hand side boot and the sensor and the PDC and the light plugs etc

Towbar wiring clarity

Hi Neil?

I just tried to PM you but apparently I'm not allowed to yet.
I'm pretty much in the same boat as you were-Hook from fleabay, wiring kit reasonably priced and available from fleabay (pfjones) and an extortionate quote from the stealer to recode afterwards.

The fitting is a simple job but without the coding what are you left with? Primarily, will it do the basics- indicate, brake, sidelights- or just stay plugged in and lifeless until the garage "switches it on".
