towbar question

hi all,
i have made up my mind to get the tow pack fitted, but i have read on the landrover website that it is not suitable with a full size spare. i am getting a thule one which is identical to the factory one (it is made by thule anyway) does the bar not push fully home or something? or do the sockets protrude too much out the back? if anyone has a towbar and full size spare wheel, could you let me know if it fits ok before i part with the cash.
cheers

stick it on ebay, you will get £200 quid plus for it, mine is costing £300 inc fitting twin electric sockets. i had a look on the landrover site to compare costs, and it would have been £500 factory fitted, thats where it mentioned "not availiable with full sized spare" the landrover one is now out of patent after 5 years, so thule is now offering identical ones, only difference is that the locking bit isnt stamped with landrover!

I wanted a tow bar on my RRS HSE and they just gave me a detachable tow bar and pushed it in to slot already under vehicle after removing red plastic cover.

Electrics were easily fitted and appear to just plug in.

endjin,

it was the removable one i got, at the time of ordering my car, i did not think i would ever tow anything! but since getting it i have had my bikes in the back quite a lot, so i decided i would get a removable towball for puting on a bike carrier, but looking on ebay you cant get one for less than £200 - i happened to look in the local trailer specialist and he had a thule one identical to the LR ones for £300 inc electrics - he said i might get a pull from the cops if i didnt have a light board, so for piece of mind i went with that.
i am now looking for a trailer, this towing lark is quite addictive!!
cheers

lol, we are talking at crossed purposes!! i meant it cost 300 for the removable towbar and electrics - not the cost of a carrier! i have found a 3 bike thule carrier for 120 notes locally which is about the same as some of the ones from the roofrack shop.

cheers

yes it does fit on the removable towbar, if it is the ride on version the carrier is held onto the ball of the tow bar with a big nut, it is fairly secure and takes about 20 secs to fit.

if it is the version where you hang the bikes from the frame, the carrier clamps onto the ball with a kind of brace , you push down in this until it is straight and it clamps tightly round the ball MY10 TDV6 SE (debadged Wink ), Santorini Black, Flappy paddles, Privacy Glass, 20" Stormers, Mudflaps!
