1) Wash using 2 bucket method with washing up liquid. (Removes a lot of the crap)
2) Rinse
3) Clay all paintwork
4) Rewash
5) Rinse
6) Apply a glaze such as Dodo Lime Prime
7) Buff with microfibre
Cool Apply a couple of coats of wax of choice
9) Buff with microfibre
10) Crack open tin/bottle of lager
11) Collapse in deck chair to admire handytwork

You are commiting the cardinal sin of detailing in point 1, do not ever ever allow washing up liquid anywhear near your paintwork, it will eat any wax you have on there. The best start is to snow foam with foam lance and then carry out rinse, &feature=related
the snow foam will remove the hard crap, then continue with 2 bucket wash using specific shampoo, i swear by Maguires Thumbs Up

Washing up liquid removes the majority of old wax and then the claybar removes whats left along with any other crap in the paint leaving it nice and clean to be either corrected or just glazed and polished!!!!! Was a detailer told me that. I only do it if they cars going to get the full treatment. Usually it was formerly Dodo Sour Power but now its Gloss-it then topped up with Dodo Red Mist. Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.
