TOOK MY 06 TDV6 TO LOCAL DEALER WITH TURBO FAULT
THEY SAID IT WAS AN AIR MASS METER £280 I SAID FIX IT
THEY THEN CAME BACK AND SAID THEY WERE WRONG AND IT WAS BOTH EGR VALVES £650 SO I SAID FIX IT
THEY HAVE NOW COME BACK AND SAID THEY WERE WRONG AND IT IS NOW A TURBO FAULT AND WANT £2000
CAN SOMEONE HELP
DEALER SAYS IT IS AN ELECTRICAL BOX ON SIDE OF TURBO WHICH IS NOT AVAILABLE SEPERATELY AND A NEW TURBO IS REQUIRED

ARE THERE CHEAPER ALTERNATIVES

Sorry to hear your bad news.
There are alternatives but the news is good and bad.

The engine is used in disco3 and RRS (we know that) but is also used in some peugeot and citroen models with a single turbo.
IIRC there was a chap in LROIm magazine a while back who bought a new turbo from a peugeot dealer WAY cheaper than Landrover.
Or maybe a turbo specialist (turbo technics or similar) could repair yours...

The bad news is ... its a pig of a job to do.
Some LR dealers have fitted their 4 post lifts with strap eyes to lift the body off.
There is now a method of turbo replacement which doesnt remove the body but its one hell of a fiddly thing to do.

I know of an independant LR specialist in Hereford who does a good job (his lads are LR trained), but his labour rates are sensible.

If you need his number ,please PM me. It might be worth ringing him just for another opinion.
