RRUK,
That is a very nice picture. It could have come straight out of the brochure.
You clearly know what you are doing with the D50. I bought my wife the D70 for her birthday last year because she wanted a "propper" camera but we haven't got a clue Crying or Very sad which is a real shame because it's a terrific piece of kit. It's just a lot smarter than I am Embarassed

PaulB,

The D70 and D70S are also truly excellent cameras. I did not go for one of those because I wanted to make sure I could make decent pictures first and I had a budget to spend. I could not stretch to the D70S. Essentially they are the same camera but the D50 is newer and has some improvements over it's big brother! That really surpised me.

I'm getting on OK with it so far, and plan to take some proper courses soon as I may look to make money out of it. I enjoy it so much, seems silly not to try.

It may herald the start of a new career path, and I feel like I need it! L319 D4 HSE

I've always been impressed with your photos RRUK - I had that one of your gear lever as my wallpaper for a while. And some of these digitals really take some cracking shots (with the relevant input from the operator, obviously) Wink

Good photos all Smile Thumbs Up

I can see VA getting all upset now as he's not "the only photographer in the village" Wink

It's just his excuse to take pictures of famous people and then brag about them afterwards Wink The amount of drug-addled orgies he has to go to, must all get very tedious. Laughing

Shutter Lag ?

What’s the shutter lag like on the D50 or for that matter a D70 ??

I’ve used a few digital cameras, mostly compacts but also a Fugi Finepix S5000 which was the worst & the shutter lag drove me absolutely nuts.

So much so I’ve been close to giving up on digital photography altogether & going back to my trusty 35mm SLR, but I do really want to go down the DSLR route, but have to get it right.

I also looked at the Canon 350D, any thoughts on it ??

I also evaluated both the Canon 350D and the D50 Nnikon. Best advice is, go to a camera shop and pick them both up, that will make your mind up, how it feels in your hand.

The performance of both cameras is very similar, however purists say the Nikon is better.

Shutter lag? Not found it an issue, the D50 takes 2.5 frames per second.

Take a look at the spec here:
