My car has been in the local dealership to have the suspension rattle fixed again and to have the upper tailgate release fixed as it has stopped working. They replaced the locking mechanism and it still would not release so the contacts are deemed corroded which requires a new wiring harness in the back door, they are on back-order BUT the only way to replace the harness is to replace the whole upper tailgate!  2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Just wondering what I am missing as there is a "Wiring Assembly - Tailgate, Tailgate Glass - part number YMN 500341 for VINs 6A927733 onward listed, so why do they need to order a new tailglass assembly? Must be more to it than that I suppose.

It is probably quicker, therefore cheaper to replace the whole upper tailgate as a complete unit than to dismantle it and put a new harness in re-assemble it then find it isn't watertight so start again................................. it's our throw away society 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

You are probably right Tim, although it is a �36 harness versus a �430 tailglass. Same thing happened when I needed a suspension air bag replaced. A complete strut with damper and air bag was fitted although you can get the airbag on its own. What I didn't like was having only one new damper - I was always told you replace dampers in pairs otherwise handling can be affected.

Big problem with replacing my tailgate though........................................

Just finised washing and cleaning the car today and tailgate glass will not open! Guess it's calling dealer tomorrow. Dam! How have you got on tim?

Hopefully mate it will be ok after tonights rest up - try it first thing before booking it in.....

Phoned dealer today cause glass will not open and it goes in on tuesday the 8th. Told them what was wrong but they have to check before they order anything!!!! I think that they think we know nothing!!!!! Guess it will be weeks after that before its done. Anyone know what the wait is for the backorder ?
