Half way down a bottle of Chianti as I write. The RRS is a bit of a compromise really. We've always had a 4x4 (to tow horse trailer & launch boat), but in recent years it's been my wife that's driven it - latterly a Mitsubishi L200, which I hated with a passion (the L200, not the wife). Anyway, she's now bought herself a BMW 1 Series convertible, so I've drawn the short straw with the 4x4. I hope you're right about not being dissapointed! |

What made you go for the Sport rather than a Vogue? (other than price). I would have thought the FFRR was more equivalent to a 7 series.
Going back to the lease company Brad, they did me a deal I couldn't resist on the TDV8. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award 2010 TDV8 HSE Galway Green - Adaptive Cruise - Sunroof - Privacy Glass - 5 Spoke Alloys 2009 TDV6 3.0 HSE Buckingham Blue - GONE |

Old Stager I am sure you are not going to be dissapointed. Like you I also owned two BMW´s coupe 3 series and than the babies came and I ordered RRS also with mixed feelings (liked the car but not the stories around it- even my best friend told me dont go for the RRS go for the X5 which is a "quality" car). Now I love it and I wouldn´t trade it for anything else. Yes I did have some small problems with my car, but you can have it also with BMW´s. 2008 RRS TDV8 HSE, Java black, Alpaca,..... |

Good question. I do enjoy, shall we say a 'spirited' drive. When I test drove the X5 the handling and performance was very good, but the ride quality and general look of the vehicle (inside & out) was hideous. I then went straight in to a RRS TDV8 test drive and was really impressed with the design and ride/handling compromise - and that was on 20" rims; I've specced 19s, which should ride even better. I certainly wouldn't want anything with softer handling and the dealer told me that the FFRR "handled like a boat" (his words), so that was what made up my mind really. I didn't drive the FFRR, but I did sit in one in the showroom - I wasn't too keen on the interior layout, especially the dashboard, which was a bit "in your face" I thought. Each to their own I guess. Price-wise, my RRS is pretty similar to an entry level 730D SE, but that wasn't really the issue. |

With the TDV8 you get the Dynamic Mode to chose from on the knobby dially thing, and that tightens things up nicely so it is really quite chuckable on the twisty roads, I am suprised how it tightens things up and makes the car more responsive, without becoming uncomfortable. |

Yes - I had a go with that and it was impressive. I have a similar system on my current 7 Series, called adaptive damping; it has comfort & sport modes. On the X5 there is only one setting - rock solid! 14.5MY SDV6 HSE Dynamic Indus silver/lunar/ebony 20" wheels, InControl, full-size spare, electric tow bar, adaptive xenons, adaptive cruise control, auto main beam assist. Gone: TDV8 HSE; Zermatt silver/ebony, 19" off road alloys, active diff, particle filter, tow pack (it was fun) BMW 730D SE (great car, sadly missed). Ford Focus RS mk2, Ultimate green, lux pack 2, bluetooth. The start of my mid-life crisis. IN THE GARAGE: BMW i8 - the mid-life crisis continues and it's great fun. |
