The Perils of Email

My local LR dealer has just sent out an email to me and its other customers about an event it's running. Unfortunately, they've put all the 1,250 addressees in the "To" field of the email, meaning that I (and the other recipients) now have access to the email addresses of all their customers, including a couple of celebs I know have bought cars from them (think footballers and TV presenters).

Think someone messed up a bit there!

Moral of the story - always use the BCC field when sending out mass emails! Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8::MG Montego Turbo::MGB GT::Rover Sterling::MGF::MG ZT 190+

that's quite a large mistake to make.......

Isn't it breaking Data Protection rules and regs by doing so?

get your annoyed email back to them complaining your details have been divulged to celebrities who could now hassle you..... Laughing

Yes, I think there's certainly a Data Protection Act breach there. There's also a legal onus on them to report their mistake, I wonder if they will?

Think I'll keep this one on hold for now until it comes to time to negotiate for free vehicle mats... Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8::MG Montego Turbo::MGB GT::Rover Sterling::MGF::MG ZT 190+

Now I think about it, I could reply to their email pointing out the error of their ways... "accidentally" using the Reply to All button... Twisted Evil Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8::MG Montego Turbo::MGB GT::Rover Sterling::MGF::MG ZT 190+
