VOLCANIC ASH RUINED 2010 PAINT !!

VOLCANIC ASH has ruined my 2010 sports paint .The stealers have not seen anything like it ,but are thinking of putting it back in the oven to pull out the stains !! lots of folk on BMW forums coming up with identicle problem so watch out. It looks just like the ash we are seeing at the moment ,BUT under cirtain weather conditions eg. sun baked on plus morning dew f*** knows what, it has been staining the paint beyond repair leaving it looking like lime from your hoseing down and unleatherd of !! ITS TROUBLE and warranty at LR are dragging their heels at THEIR suggestion it may be volcanic related [ sulphuric acid ] strong in some areas .

Also - what has it to do with LR warranty - not sure you can claim their anti volcanic ash additive isn't working - surely more of an insurance claim issue no Question Whistle Shocked Laughing

I love this country - on one hand we are told that god doesn't play a part in our lives but then when a volcano erupts it's an act of god! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Maybe trawl the members list and see if any Icelandic members have a problem with their paintwork, if it's ash related then I would take a stab that they might have had a little fallout there

if no members with a MY2010 then maybe LR could enquire with LR Iceland to see what's happened presuming they have sold one there

To me, it's typically an insurance job, like flood, forest fire or anything related. Isn't there a waranty exclusion in LR about natural disasters ? 2010 TDV6 3.0 HSE Santorini Black Tan Full Leather

It's common sense to me - if it was crushed by a falling tree would you claim on warranty or insurance Whistle

Dear LR - i respectfully wish to claim under warranty that my RRS is not crush proof ......

If the insurerer is blaming the clearcoat then you need to claim on your insurance and your insurer needs to take the matter up with the manufacturer. Question

I would assume that it is a similar situation to bird lime where it needs to be washed off immediately so as to avoid any damage to the paint?

I noticed my wifes car had a covering one morning so hosed it off pretty quickly and it seems fine (BMW paint but not a BMW Whistle ).

It CAN be detailed off - the same way you can wet sand the clearcoat and polish it up.....if the whole car is messed up - would cost about £500-600 plus maybe some extra for the roof......this would obviously also depend on the thickenss of the clearcoat and how much depth you have to play with.....

agreed, unless the "acid" has eaten all the way through the weak clearcoat, if it needs lots of sanding, polishing, how much clear will be left behind, maybe very little in places which will then have to last the life of the car or at least his ownership

what ever happens its not what i would like on a new car,

Your insurance should be covering it IMO, just like they would if a greeny had thrown acid over it,

if a lightening bolt blow a branch off your car thats an act of god, are they saying your not covered for that aswell

shame you couldn't get a photo
