repairing alloys and spare wheel speed limit

I am 99% certain this is a throw-away, can't be repaired.. can someone interject if that's not the case before I bin it:

2nd question - the spare wheel is rated as 50mph/80kph maximum speed. Why is this? It appears to be a full size 19" wheel with a standard 250/50 tyre. Is the 'max speed':

1. just health and safety
2. for when there is a mis-match in size i.e. 20" on one side, the spare on the other .. and therefore if the sizes match does the limit not apply?
3. something to do with the transmission/differential and #2 above?

I was told that on some LRE days they run cars with 4 x spares because "the black wheels look cool" - if true does that have any safety implications?

cheers

edit: obviously keeping the tyre!!!

Netherlands 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Buckingham Blue

Hi RRSBOY,

I had the same happened to me 3 months ago!
Had also a stone stuck between the brake caliper and the rim.
Pierced a hole the size of a euro.

The LR dealer aswell as the local tyre shop said that a company in Portugal was specialized in these kinds of repairs.

They send it off, and after 1 week it was back.
They left the tyre off until i was there so i could inspect the repair.
Absolutely spotless!!!
After the welding they repainted the wheel. The wheel looked like new!!
I now use that wheel as a reserve.

Total cost 120 euro incl. shipping. excl fitting and balancing the tyre.

If you are interested i could request the adress of this company, so you can email them a photo of the demaged rim to get more info.

Good luck. SW

sometimes we must do what is required.
