Due to an "agreement" with the EU Apple have to supply the new iphones with a standard USB connection so it maybe not the one that will be available over here

I suspect that Apple will retain their proprietary interface for controlling the phone to ensure compatibility will all their existing accessories and will provide a mini-USB connection just for charging, which is all the EU requirement calls for.
