Was it like this one ?

If so, I think they are used for the Land Rover USA dealer "TReK" events, which is a challenge similar to the G4 event but on a smaller scale & is open to U.S. Land Rover dealers only.

Edit to add.......

Here's some info on the event.....

Quote:
LAND ROVER TReK
Land Rover TReK is a semi-annual inter-retailer challenge. It provides an opportunity for the staff of Land Rover's retail outlets to showcase their off-road skills, enthusiasm, product knowledge and sense of competition. The TReK competition includes orienteering, rally navigation, mountain biking, canoeing and, of course, off-road driving events.

Team members drive specially outfitted Land Rover vehicles and compete head-to-head and against the clock in a number of physical challenges. Land Rover TReK allows retail personnel to engage in friendly competition and helps to support their enthusiasm for off-road activities. Through participation in the TReK competition, Land Rover retail personnel gain knowledge and appreciation for the brand, thereby benefiting Land Rover customers.

Land Rover Eden Prairie of Eden Prairie, Minnesota won Land Rover TReK 2003, held at Forbes Trinchera Ranch in Colorado. Following four successful TReK competitions in the U.S., Land Rover U.K. created Global TReK, which was held in South Africa in 2001. Teams from eleven countries competed with then defending U.S. champions, Land Rover Greenville, coming in a respectable third place.

Australia 2005 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Tangiers Orange

I think those cars are the ones used in the selection trials for the (cancelled) 2009 G4 event. The side graphics are those from 2009 and I think I read somewhere that LR just kitted out white cars in each country rather than send orange ones all over the world. Very few of the orange cars actually saw 'action' so to speak, only a few Defenders, D3's, couple of Freelanders and a RRS as I recall. The RRS used in Mongolia came back a little 'weary' from its travels Laughing Ex-G4 Challenge RRS HSE, BV55 YZE. Subtle shade of orange ! Now registered YZE481 G4RRS in Melbourne.

This was a Discovery Series 2 not a D3 .. So would be much older i think in terms of G4 challenge type events. Also i did not notice the ambulance strips on the side .. was that standard ? Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

I knew there were 2 or 3 of the 2008 vehicles out there but not what type, in fact this month's LRM mag has a photo of a 2008 G4 110 Defender in it taken on a beach in Oz. Ex-G4 Challenge RRS HSE, BV55 YZE. Subtle shade of orange ! Now registered YZE481 G4RRS in Melbourne.

Not far away then, I'm in Penarth.

I'm not welsh though Sheep

btw, Ambulance stripes on the side of the G4 car, that's because the Red Cross were one of the charities being supported on the 2009 event. The white band on the back door had a Red Cross logo on it. Ex-G4 Challenge RRS HSE, BV55 YZE. Subtle shade of orange ! Now registered YZE481 G4RRS in Melbourne.

Australia 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

I popped into my local land rover specialist at lunchtime today and sitting in there was the white Discovery in G4 livery that you refer to.

It is owned by an english gent who has spent considerable time and money modifying his Discovery using parts imported exclusively imported from the UK. It is actually a Series 1 but he has fitted the series 2 headlights and rear lights to make it look more modern. He intended to have the car re-sprayed in G4 Orange but the cost was too much so he stayed with a white re-spray.

The modification list is huge and too many to mention but it includes: suspension lift, front winch bar, multiple bash plates, side rails, expedition roof rack, snorkel, re-routed exhaust, rims, tyres etc etc etc. I took some photos of it and will post them later once I've had a chance to black out the registration. 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey with Alpaca premium leather, Adaptive cruise, Adaptive Bi-xenons, sunroof, Premium Nav, Premium ICE Logic 7, telephone, active locking rear diff, console coolbox, seat memory, powerfold mirrors, tow pack, window tint, dual battery, engel fridge, Goodyear Mud-Terrain tyres.

It was at Cremorne Prestige in Artarmon, just down the road from Alto Land Rover. It's just had a dent repaired in the door after his wife rearranged the panels for him. They gave me a full run down on what he's had done and it looks immaculate considering it's actually a series 1. You can only tell from the interior as he's upgraded everything externally to make it a Series 2. 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey with Alpaca premium leather, Adaptive cruise, Adaptive Bi-xenons, sunroof, Premium Nav, Premium ICE Logic 7, telephone, active locking rear diff, console coolbox, seat memory, powerfold mirrors, tow pack, window tint, dual battery, engel fridge, Goodyear Mud-Terrain tyres.
