I have just had another tyre failure on the standard 20' stormer rims. They are great looking rims, and perform well on good roads ..... but are absolutely hopeless on dirt roads. IMHO the 275/40 tyres are just too low for an offroad (off normal tar roads) vehicle.
I am now looking for a tyre with a higher side wall (min 55 I should think), and that means new rims. I am hoping a 19" rim with a 55 side wall will do the trick.
Before I settle on the rubber, I need smaller rims, and understand that 19" must be the minimum (because of the brembos). Has anyone had experience with standard 19" BMW X5 rims? Are the BMW rims suitable or is some modification required?
Any help will be appreciated.

I was running 20'' SC Alloys but they were so useless on rough roads and I was fed up having them fixed / refurbed and also replacing tyre after tyre. So, I bought a standard set of 19''s brand new from another Forum member, Codfather who took delivery of his new MY2010 last week and he upgraded to 20'' Stormers and he sold me his standard 19s. Much better! If you see a bandwagon - it's too late.....

Thanks for the reply. I see you got lucky. There does not seem to be such a big community here in South Africa and that is why I was thinking of a BMW rim.
