Husky

Any member has a husky ?
My kids played with one at a friend's house and we decided to buy a baby to be born next may.
We have a large garden — and woods 300 yards from home. 2010 TDV6 3.0 HSE Santorini Black Tan Full Leather

Not personally but a neighbour has one. I hope you like walking for miles cos they get seriously bored without masses of exercise and end up howling like a wolf and chewing your furniture.

Also apparently you mustn't let it of the lead as they run for miles and miles as thats their job, before they will turn around to find their owner.

Nice dogs tho'. Thumbs Up FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

Yup Bradders has it right. They need lots of exercise. They easily bore also hence the chewing etc. Its is a dog thats needs engaging and challenging as well as lots and lots and lots of walking.

I vaguely recall reading they are not ideal family pets either but I cannot recall why. I looked at getting one myself but with my circumstances it wouldn't have been fair on the dog.

Lovely looking pets though I hope you have many happy years of companionship! WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

I have 2 Alaskan Malamutes which are basically giant huskies.

Huskies are very hyperactive and take a lot of looking after, if they get bored they will destroy everything, so you need to walk them and keep them entertained constantly. They are also known to run away a lot.

On the positive they are very loving and good natured dogs.

Malamutes as I said are the big cousin of the Huskie, but much more placid and easier to keep, Still a handfull though.

I have had and loved both breeds and will have more in the future Thumbs Up 4.4i V8 HSE G4 RRS.

I love Malamutes - such abeautiful dogs and you're right, far more placid than Huskies - and around kids, i would say go for a Malamute - not saying a huskie would do anything, just that they can be a little boystrous and with kids they might get agitated.....

A guy I work with has 2 (and 2 kids) I can put you in touch with him if you like, he won't mind at all. I've also heard the same thing about never letting them off the lead, also make sure your garden is well fenced in as they will escape through the smallest of holes. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

Richard,

That would be very kind of you, if you (he) don't mind.
The fence is a problem : the front garden of the house is open.
Meaning we would have to always keep the dog on a leash. Rolling Eyes 2010 TDV6 3.0 HSE Santorini Black Tan Full Leather
