Cleaning Confusion!

Hi,

Have been reading through all of the cleaning processes and products and have become thoroughly confused. Embarassed Can anyone recommend a simple stage by stage cleaning process and products that I could use to achieve the best results. Is autoglym the way forward. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Kev

I do a 2 bucket hand wash followed by clay-bar if it needs it. I then use scratch remover called "Scratch Off" by hand on light clear coat scratches. Then use an orbital grinder with a foam pad to wax and use either Meguiars paste or Gold Class Liquid wax. I use micro fiber towels to remove wax. Good luck!! Mike mike murphy

My twice a year routine is;

I jet wash off the crud, then soak with a foam lance. Jet wash again, soak again and then wash with a woollen mitt. Jet wash off, and dry with a micro fibre. Clay bars are superb at removing stubborn tar spots etc at this stage, then another wash and dry.

Polish with a rotary to get rid of any swirls using a very mild cutting polish (preferably without fillers which just mask the swirls) and then apply a really good solid wax and buff up. Takes me a full day.

Between this I wash as above and slap on a liquid wax.

Autoglym is absolutely fine and they do just about everything in the range that you might need. Thumbs Up FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

Looks like a small pice of blutack that you gently rub over the paintwork and/or wheels with a lubricant and it pulls off tar spots and general crud etc. You are left with incredibly smooth bodywork ready for polishing or waxing.

Check out this link;

http://www.detailedimage.com/Auto-Detailing-Guide/Clay-Bar/

You will be amazed how much crap it pulls of the bodywork. Ive got a piccie of a bar I used on the drivers door a few weeks ago in my gallery.

Hope this helps. Thumbs Up FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

Amazing stuff!

I have just washed my car and had noticed the surface dirt that i couldn't wash off, clay seems to be the answer, does anybody know of a good supplier?

www.elitecarcare.co.uk sell a clay bar that you can use water as the lubricant, very easy to use.

Halfords sell Clay bar kits, I use Maguires about £15 for the kit.

I have just spent the day detailing my 2008 RRS, I only bought it about three weeks ago from a private seller, the car was perfect in every way except for swirl marks and scratches in the paintwork, looked like it had been through the car wash too many times or cleaned with a dirty leather.

I came across this company on the web http://www.gtechniq.com/uplerds/gtechprices.pdf they are local to where I live so I went to see them, very helpful guy, I purchased their P1 compound and C2 sealant the results are just amazing and very easy to apply. The paintwork is now like a mirror.

I have ordered some bilt hamber from ultimatefinish

out of stock till 6th April but you can just use this stuff with water instead of lube, you also get a 200g bar in container for keeping it

soft for regular use, and some

regular for stubborn stuff, buy this can Leave marring, but is supposed to be quite good on wheels and brake dust is burnt on, hence me buying some Evil or Very Mad
