I thought it would be the other way round - DPF = exhaust points back, no DPF = exhaust points down. Odd. Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8::MG Montego Turbo::MGB GT::Rover Sterling::MGF::MG ZT 190+

I remember another discussion on the forum about that....and it was not as straight forward.... people with dpf having exhaust up and down and people without dpf having the same mix... Range Rover Vogue ‘17 TDV6

How true! However, the caked on cowmuck thrown up by the rear wheels will protect the finish on the caravan. purple people eater

Purple, yours has a DPF! Wink

Jimmy, yours is DPF-free however I have noticed that Matthew asked you to sign a disclaimer about the opperation of the DPF in error. Embarassed So, you won't need to go on any regeneration journeys when it fills up!

Does that mean i will have to have it regenerated often? mostly town driving and towing for the PPE. Does it cost to have this done? purple people eater

Don't you just have to take it for a bit of an occasional thrash to "regenerate" it? Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8::MG Montego Turbo::MGB GT::Rover Sterling::MGF::MG ZT 190+

Unless you drive predomantly in town it should regenerate without you actually being aware. Some customers in London do not do enough 'out of town' driving to allow the vehicle to regenerate, in which case an amber warning light comes on. If you see an amber light then take it for a decent run on a dual-carriageway.

This is an exert from an information doccument that we give to our customers with DPF equipped vehicles:

Get peak performance from your Land Rover diesel

Land Rover’s Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Early build 2010 Range Rover Sport & Discovery 4

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

It is required that vehicle manufacturers meet legislative requirements for the reduction of particulates under forthcoming emission regulations. The fitment of a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) will reduce soot, smoke and particulates emitted from a vehicles exhaust.

A Diesel Particulate Filter is designed to improve the quality of the air in our environment; however it may be necessary for some customers to modify their motoring characteristics. Early 2010my Range Rover Sport and Discovery 4 vehicles have been fitted as standard with the DPF option (usually a £440 factory option).

When the engine is at a normal operating temperature and driven at normal speeds (40mph or more), the soot particles that have been collected in the DPF are burned away automatically by a process called regeneration. If you make a lot of short journeys, with a lot of starting and stopping, and without driving above 40mph for over 20 minutes at a time, then the DPF may not reach the correct temperature to automatically regenerate.

The accumulation of soot can cause a warning message to be displayed. If your vehicle has not been able to regenerate due to driving conditions then you will see an amber or red warning light. AMBER means that you should be able to regenerate the DPF on your own by driving the vehicle for 20 minutes at 40mph or above (always observing speed limits) to trigger the regeneration and then a further 20 minutes to allow the full regeneration process to take place. RED means that you must contact a Land Rover Approved Service Centre or Land Rover Assist before damage to the DPF occurs.

We recommend to our customers that they consider the typical conditions that they find themselves driving in. If you believe that your DPF will not be able to regenerate automatically on a regular basis, then you may wish to consider taking your vehicle periodically ‘on a run’ so as to allow the full regeneration process to take place and avoid the appearance of the DPF warning lights.

Hope this helps?

I took it to mean the opposite (at least for the UK market, I think they're mandatory in some parts of the EU) - on the UK LR site it shows it as a cost option. Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8::MG Montego Turbo::MGB GT::Rover Sterling::MGF::MG ZT 190+

Fair point, it says "O" for option. However, the same chart also uses "NCO" for no-cost option:

http://www.landrover.com/gb/en/rr/range-ro...s-options/

That said, there are a number of different publications detailing options for the RRS, some of which seem to contain contradictory information Wink Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8::MG Montego Turbo::MGB GT::Rover Sterling::MGF::MG ZT 190+
