United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black
Topped up coolant level on TDV8

I wonder if anyone might be able to help?

I was cleaning the (RRS) TDV8 at the weekend and filled up the windscreen wash. I noticed the coolant/antifreeze looked low and the next day when I started the car, I got a warning saying it needed topping up.

I have since topped up the level (didn't take much to get it back to the top of the fill line). And no messages since.

What might have caused the use of coolant - i.e. it needng to be topped up?

It's a 58/09 TDV8 with 27kmiles on that clock and we've had it since new with very few problems.

Thanks in advance.

(The car is going in next week to have some warranty thing done to the suspension and I'll mention the coolant to them too). 09- 58 plate, brand spanking, RRS TDV8 HSE, Black on black. Really enjoying it so far.
06 - Porsche 911 997 C2S - love it.
59 Plate Audi A6 Avant, 3.0tdi, s-line, le mans quatro. (good replacement for old volvo and bmw).

There was a Technical Bulletin, No.LTB00126 issued in Feb 08 for TdV8s only - "Coolant Leak from Radiator Upper Hose" - VINs in the range 133990-144704 caused by a weak upper radiator hose clip. Yours sound later than that but it depends on build date rather than registration date. Dealer should be aware of this but it might be worth mentioning the bulletin number.

If there is a leak and it's not that or something obvious, the dealer should do a pressure test on the cooling system. If the pressure drops under test there is a leak but if it's small it might not be easy to find. There are a lot of hoses, some well hidden, two radiators on a TdV8, water cooled engine and gearbox oil coolers, fuel cooler, fuel burning heater, cabin heater, etc.

Hope it's something simple. Let us know.
