Help with tyres for MY 10

I need a bit of advice - I have just had to pump up the tyres on the RRS (Sport Contact 275/40/20's) and found a bolt through one front wheel and the other with severe cracking on the outside (i.e. body side) of the tyre. Deep cracks which don't look like they have been damaged by anything. I must also add that compared to the back tyres the fronts look knackered - heavy scrubbing. I have only driven 4.5k miles (since new - MY 10) and one of the fronts was replaced only 4k miles ago after it and a rear tyre blew out. I am not a nutty driver in any sense.

Is this a fact of life owning an RRS, rubbish tyre quality or something else with the suspension set up? Off to find a replacement for the tyre with a bolt through it and may end up replacing the other cracked front tyre.

Any advice?

Thank you

Singe

Shocked To have 2 tyres blow out like that, and the wear that you say, suggests that the wheel alignment has not been set up correctly from new, I'd be demanding that the vehicle has a 4 wheel alignment check and any adjustments done FOC. You need to be careful who does this though because in my experience some dealers are crap at this, as are the w Censored ers at LR who build them. Ouch, I have Conti's, heard they are a bit 'soft', good for grip but bad for wear. Haven't noticed anything like what you have been suffering. I'd say it needs to be looked at by the Dealer.... 2010MY Land Rover Freelander 2 HSE

I have new MY10 15 spoke alloys with the factory fit contis on and they really arent wearing very well. I am getting the 4 wheel allignment done though and the front bushes etc to stop the knocking so maybe that will help.

It sounds to me like you have a serious issue though - I'd be straight back to the dealer!

Good luck mate - you have a lovely looking car if nothing else...

have also done 4500 miles, but have none of the issues you describe. I usually go through tyres fairly quickly, but current set are fine.

Thank you for the advice - the car goes in for its 'Quality Assurance' on Thursday and I will ask that this is addressed then. The guy in Kwik Fit said LR are notorious for being unable to deliver cars with the tracking right!!! Shocked
