Would it be better to have it on the dash

The windscreen version in hot Oz sun might cause problems to the phone Question

I prefer to have iphone 3gs connected to the left of the steering wheel using a Brodit Passive Holder and proclip.
It is then within easy reach, and you don`t have to stretch over to operate. It`s also handier/tidier for cabling, will hopefully get the proper connector cable plumbed in one day then not have to use the cigarette socket to charge.

Plus points for windscreen mount would be marginally better GPS signal and a better line of sight to the screen.
I used to have one similar but disliked having the charging cable strung up to the windscreen across the center console.

Before the iPhone I had always preferred strategicaly placed dashboard mounts.

However, becauseteh iphone does so much more and you want it 'to hand' i found that the higher mounting options of a screen mount worked better and kept my eyese 'nearer the road'.

If you use SatNav on the iPhone then the TomTom car kit is by far the best kit available, discrete, bulletproof handsfree and extra GPS for very accurate location. It also tiny when removed from the car.

I found that I could strategically route the cable from the armrest cigarette socket charger and hide th cabel all teh way to the dashboard. I locate it to the right of the wheel (by the pillar here in the UK) and it works a treat. I couldn't reccomend it highly enough (far more usable than the 2010MY SatNag). 2010MY HSE 3.0 TDV6. Stornoway Grey/Ivory. Extended leather, winter pack.

I have already mentioned this before, but I do it again.
Instead of thinking about big ugly mounts you can use tetrax instead.

it looks like this

the mount:

small pin you stick to your iphone

it takes basically no space, holds very hard (i think it never fell from the mount in whatever conditions I was driving) and fits perfect where i have it. you easily access menu, if you want to dial numbers, you can easily use navigation on your iphone if you are fed up with lr navigation. you can easily plug a car charger, which is useful with iphones.
the pin and magnets are made of spoecial material, so it does not damage battery of your phone.
Simple, good, and nice. nothing is as good as this. My name: Patryk

Hmmm I like that tetrax thing.

I am in the USA at the moment and I will see if I can find a tetrax mount. 2R, I will get you one as well, IF I find one.

I don't have an iPhone but I do use the iPod touch in the car. I have just bought a Tom Tom mount and used the iPod touch as a GPS in the company Chevvy Suburban around New York and Connecticut.

What a brilliant piece of kit....the iPod and Tom Tom, not the Chevvy Suburban! Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

2R

I have been o a couple of places and I can't find the tetrax mount. Maybe we will have to do a group buy if we want one.

I have spent most of the afternoon driving a friend of mine's Audi S5. 4.2litre V8 and quattro.....I think I want one, the thing goes like stink and handles like its on rails! LR need to take lessons from Audi on how to integrate an iPod.

I will just have to save my pocket money! Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

I would be very happy to faciltate group UK purchase and distribution if somebody can supply from abroad.

<Ignorable>
Evil or Very Mad
Please dont be misled by just about the only good aspect of Audi compared to just about the only bad aspect of LR (ie Multi-Media Interface for Satnav, phone audio etc).

I came to own a Range Rover after recently buying a new Audi and selling it after 18 months ( an extremely expensive and very unpleasant journey ).
Audi ride quality is the worst of any car I have ever owned and Audi corp and dealerships are much worse than LR. I am somewhat bitter about Audi, I could go on for pages and pages about Audi inadequacies but I wont - it is time to move on. Needless to say, none of my family, friends or employees will be buying a new Audi any time soon.
