Advice on getting from Germany to Denmark

Any advice would be appreciated - I'm thinking of driving from London to Copenhagen to see the family and fancied a little trip in the RRS over 5 days. Getting to Germany is fine - but am I right in thinking the port to cross from in Germany is Kiel? And what is the service like, ie who do I use to travel over with, does it take long, how much does it cost approx etc etc

Thanks for any info! Thumbs Up

Mate if I were you I would take the ferry from Rostock to Gedser.
Used the service last year when I went to Sweden - very smooth and quick way to drive to Copenhagen.

Mate, check google maps - Rostock is in Germany and Gedser in Denmark Wink The ferry is short. It only takes about two hours to cross.

Whilst on the mini adventure you have to stop in Hamburg - Reeperbahn is a must see stop on your trip to Copenhagen Thumbs Up

Mate, just a thought - when are you planning to drive?
It might be worth checking winter tyre regulations in Germany and Denmark Whistle

Just another question of I may.....still planning my trip, and very excited I am too! I will of course need to change my lights - will these once adjusted be ok driving thru France, Belgium, Germany and Denmark? Or will I need to change them at some points of my trip? And is a GB sticker mandatory in some places too? I know a Hazard triangle is req too......other things I'm taking

Air compressor/repair cannister (in case, for the tyres)
Small container with fuel (are these allowed on ferries and eurotunnel?)
Maybe one map, in case the navaigation thinks of taking me to Lithuania....

and other stuff I am sure I will think of!

and no, I'm not taking the best of Chris Rea, The Eagles or Best Driving Songs Ever!

Not usually an issue these days but worth checking - your insurance, green card they used to call it, most policies allow for 90 days overseas IIRC but worth a check.

Also ISTR there is a section on DVLA re what you need to carry in which countries if travelling, triangle etc, i think bulbs spares kits are mandatory in places.... first aid, fire ext, seatbelt slice ....

MAW is right make sure to have the green card.

Lights - to change it is a very quick job. Just follow the manual. Can be done on the ferry/tunnel within 5 minutes (It is where I usually do it anyway).

As far as I am aware the GB is sticker is only mandatory if you have the old (understand non-european) number plate.

And for the stuff you ought to take. I would not bother with a fuel container as there are more petrol stations in Germany as they are here. Though you will definitely need: first aid, high-vis jacket/west; fire extinguisher; and hazard triangle.

Above all I would make sure that you have the LRA number ready together with you fully charged phone Laughing

Thumbs Up
