Thanks for that tip. On closer inspection - the original blades are pretty much at the end of their life.

Your wipers make more of a noise when they are dirty. Soak a piece of rag in vinegar (yes, that stuff you put on your chips) and clean along the length of the wiper blades with it.

old wives tale maybe, but always told by my Dad to clean screen and wipers with vinegar and newspaper purple people eater

I had the same wiper problem on my TDV6 and the same is happening on my V8. I've tried replacements but same problem persisted.

If you can find them, try Bosch Icons. I've recently installed them on my 06 RRSport and they work very nicely with no audible squeaking. I purchased them after looking at RainX, Goodyear and Michelin wipers. The Bosch Icons are high-performance wipers that are well-made with a sturdy feel most of you will appreciate.
