Did you get much discount from the screen price?

Looking to buy now and have been told by one particular dealer that they price their cars so there is only really about a £200 discount available!

I know that RRS are still in massive demand but when anyone has done a deal recently have you found this to be the case?

All info welcome.

Thanks

Where is the car from? Used or new? Franchised dealer or specialist? Or broker?

Are you talking used?

Some dealers will over-inflate their prices so that they can knock a big chunk off for you or give you more than you were expecting for your part-exchange. Other dealers will advertise cheaper prices but will not be as flexible (if at all) or generous with your PX.

I tend to follow the latter in this Internet age because you will not get many enquiries on your cars if you are too expensive as buyers can sort their searches by price. I try to make sure my cars are in the top 3 cheapest (compared to similar ones) within a 100 mile radius, however that means I don't have the margin to then knock £000's off.

Best advice is to find the cheapest one, making sure it's not cheap because of a particular negative reason and then see how far you can push the deal. TBH most decent stock won't get onto the net as they'll be sold 'subject to viewing' when they come in.

If you were talking about new, then yes, deals have tightened right up. We only have 5 RRS between now and May that are unsold!

Good luck and if we can help then let Matt or know.

James Thumbs Up

I'm talking about used cars from franchised dealers.

There can be a £3000 difference between similar cars!

I absolutely understand that condition, spec, location etc etc will all have a bearing, but as James said, in the days where we can all sort a national list of cars for sale by price it just seems a bit weird.

James, LPR would be my first choice owing to all the glowing reports on here, I did speak to Matt last week who is keeping his eyes peeled for the right car.

Suppose it just seems a bit mad getting quoted a max of £200 discount on a £28k purchase, but then the aim of the game is the right car at the right price!

Am sure someone on here recently said they got a £4k discount off the screen price! That one must have been overpriced!

James, buying something before it even gets advertised is fine by me Thumbs Up

Dont forget that if you've got a car to sell, forget trading it in will usually not get you the best deal unless it's another sought after LR & the dealer already has a buyer lined up.
Sell you existing privately, become a cash buyer, negociate the right car @ the best cash deal & then get the extras you want thrown in to clinch the deal.
"Good" used cars will always sell quickly in the current market, eg: I took 4 months to find the right used car (V8, Colour, Trim, Spec & Sunroof) & 2 of us were after it in the first 3 hours of it being traded to the dealer, I even had to put a refundable deposit down to clinch it whilst it was being test driven by somebody else !
Good luck finding what you want Wink I am their leader................ which way did they go ?
