Remember Great Vinyl Record Cover art ?

Im sure, like me, many of you of, how shall I put it, "advanced years" will often have a bout of nostalgia recalling the days when buying a vinyl album was an event. Going to the record shop on a Saturday morning to browse the racks of records. Then when you get your purchase home, you could spend hours reading the sleeve notes and admiring the art work.

However just to show that nostalgia's not what it was...

We were talking about this yesterday at home comparing the difference between me at 16 and my parents and me and my kids now.
I remember buying Yessongs triple album which was probably the pinnacle of cover design and the arguments with my parents when I played it full blast in my bedroom.
We used to spend all Saturday morning in the Virgin shop sat in airplane seats listening to the latest albums.
Follow up album Tales from Topographic Oceans was also a graphics masterpiece.
Also of note were all the Roxy Music albums and Genesis' Lamb Lies Down. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

There was recently an arts program on radio4 about how collectable many of those album sleeves have now become, some of them are worth significant amounts of money now. Downloadable MP3's just don't seem to get very exciting or subversive artwork with them like we used to get in the 60's and 70's - kids today just don't know what they are missing as so little effort seems to go into MP3 artwork. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
