MY09 TDV8 or MY10 TDV6?

Hi all, I'm new here and hope to enjoy the organised chaos when I finally get my RRS.

So I have put a deposit down on a MY09 (plated 58 so is this right?) TDV8. The thing is, I was about to buy a MY10 TDV6 but then financial sensibilities kicked in. As I'm moving house I could do with some money because it needs some work so I rashly changed my choice to get a s/h TDV8. This would save approx £10k on a MY10 TDV6.

That £10k is nice to have to put a few things right on the new house but now I'm begining to think I made a mistake and should have kept with a new TDV6. Reading all about how great it is in comparison to the outgoing model makes me think I will miss out on a much better experience and I should have put all my money towards it.

Is this the case or can I be safely thrilled with an older (by 1.5 years) TDV8? This is my first RRS coming from an Audi which kept falling into pot holes Laughing

I really hope so and also in 2 years I may be able to afford the new model, but there will probably be an even newer model by then Smile

Actually I've just read the contract I signed with the deposit and if I cancel I have to pay 5% of the purchase price so let's hope my choice is a good one Shocked

Model year 09 came to the market in October 08 so 58 plate is right. You will love the TDv8! Let us know how you get on with it but it will give you a bigger smile than the TDv6, especially when you put you foot down and hear that deep down rumble! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tricky one. The TDV8 is a lovely motor, but the 2010MY is a much nicer product. Good luck with the decision. I decided the 2010MY was a must have. I couldn't see the value in the TDV8 over the new 3.0 TDV6, normally I gotta have the biggest engine, but not one regret. The pick up in the twin turbo V6 is just awesome and it is so quiet to drive........anyway I digress...... Thumbs Up

That's gorgeous Gazzer!

Not being an expert, but the new twin turbo TDV6 seems to have bags of torque and power, will prob be easily remapped, and the interior of the MY2010 is definitely a major improvement on the older interior.

I would love a MY2010 looking like AdamRRS's motor

Alf gets a 2009 TDV8 with few known glitches for a lot less than a 2010 TDV6 complete with a heap of presently incurable glitches................

TDV8 all the way

anyway without knowing exactly what you put your depo down, 99 times out of 100 the dealer cant keep any of it if you cancel. James will know the actualy answer, but I have walked away from deals in the past (new and used) and each time they have claimed to be entitled to keep some/all of my deposit, each time I have kicked up a fuss and mentioned trading standards, and each time got all the money back

That's lovely Gazza. Tbh cost did sway me. if it wasn't for the house purchase I'd have joined you. The luxurious new interior is definitely a major draw. The old model is very dated inside which is my only real issue.

So out of interest is the new MY10 TDV8 engine the same as MY09 TDV8 engine?

My other concern is I'm moving within 10 min walking distance to work. I'd still like to drive though, the rebel I am Mr. Green Is a V8 being fired up every morning for a short run to work damaging to the engine? Walking is an option but leaving my new RRS at home every day just doesn't seem right Laughing

Two weeks can't come soon enough Very Happy

Wow, looks great gazzer, must say that the side steps sets it all off nicely. Was that a dealer fit or an after thought?

A 10 minute walk to work and any TDv engined RRS will be ruined.................. it just will not have even thought about warming through and the FBH will just have started and then have to stop on a cold morning. Your fuel consumption will be chronic, you should consider a used Supercharged as it will cost you less and burn the same amount of fuel for a run like that, but when you want to have fun will give you a bigger grin than even a TDv8. It would better for your pocket, your health and the environment if you walked the 10 minutes to work!
Never thought I would recommend anybody to buy an S/C on environmental grounds Rolling with laughter 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Agree with TIS. A TD engine needs to warmed otherwise you'll get fouling and corrosion etc. The Supercharged 4.2 would be a better and far cheaper.

Haven't I posted a pic before?
All dealer fit options from delivery, sidesteps etc......

Can you stump up the cash for the 0% APP. Then you don't have to worry about the payments on a 2010MY purchase? 2010MY Land Rover Freelander 2 HSE
