Wheel sizing question????????????

If the outer diameter of an 18" wheel and tyre set is equal to that of a 20" wheel and tyre set why is it advised that 20" wheels are used with a dampened steering rack? I'm considering upgrading my 18's to 20" on my 05 plate and have read a lot of these posts. Some of which have conflicting views. Any advice from those who know about these things please? Confused

Supposedly was due to the lower profile of the tyres on 20" rims nor providing as much "softening" of vibrations up from the road surface leading to damage of the upstream component parts. It wasn't anything that lasted very long as all RRSs shipped with the damped rack from Q2 2006.

If you are still running with the undamped rack you will suffer from vibrations on 20s, but not 19s so maybe worth splitting the difference and upgrading to those? Very Happy
