Start up - idle/running issues

Hi. I would like to ask for advice on a problem we have started to encounter when initially switching the engine on from cold. The engine appears to be running/ idling very lumpy (if that makes sense). Once it warms slightly it appears to idle as it should. My wife (who uses the car daily) has complained that on a few occassions recently, when she has tried to drive away there has been no response from the accelerator. A few moments later (possible when it warmed slightly) the problem appears to have dissappeared and the car performs ok. It does seem worse the colder the weather. Slightly frustrating, all advice is welcome. Ps, service due in May. Thanks.....

Sounds like you might have a problem with your glow plugs. It could also be your EGR valves sticking open or crap in your fuel filter. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Hi VA, thanks for your quick reply. My limited experience with car issues pointed me towards the plugs as there doesn't appear to be an issue once the engine has warmed slightly.
Are these best replaced at the dealership or is it a straightforward diy job?

hi would not recomend diy job as it requires high pressure fuel pump removal, anyway most cold start issues are caused by poor fuel quality. use a good non supermarket fuel and after the sevice you may find problem has cleared. egr faults are generally acompanied by smoke from exhaust and loss of power. if worried still suggest trip to dealer for afault code read. hope this helps, steve.

Thanks Steve, I have noticed smoke on start up. The vehicle booked in with dealer next week. I'll post the outcome.
